1. Katz Gluten Free has a promotion where if you pay for the shipping ($8 for me), they'll send you afree sampler box of gluten free baked goods. All of their stuff is dairy and nut free, for those who need that. For me, I like nuts- the people and the food- because they add flavor and texture to life! So, I sweetly asked my Marine to get out...
2. I get the AGAINST the Grain at Wegman's in Dale City in Virginia. We live in Old Town Alexandria, but my bf works in Quantico, so I make him take a detour on a regular basis.
3. I got sick from this yogurt! I accidentally bought it at the airport, and realized too late. It looked just like the other kind I normally buy, I guess. Or I just wasn't thinking, I do not know. If you do not react, you are still damaging your body. But, I do envy you for all the symptoms you get to avoid!

5. Dear Newly Diagnosed Celiac, Gluten Free Living is a Journey... Try to remember-it's the rainy days that help us appreciate the sunny ones. Maybe reading gluten free books, blogs, or message boards could help validate your feelings and give you eating ideas. Sometimes, your mind will jump to plenty of excuses of why you can't or why the ideas seem unrealistic...
6. Try to remember-it's the rainy days that help us appreciate the sunny ones. Maybe reading gluten free blogs could help validate your feelings and give you eating ideas. Sometimes, your mind will jump to plenty of excuses of why you can't or why the ideas are ridiculous, but try to focus on the "can" and the "I'll try" attitude. Yes, I had a hard time...
7. When I do my explanation of my dietary needs to servers or other people, I say that my co-eaters are "regular" and that I am "special". I never use the term normal. Sometimes I playfully expound upon regular: plain, run-of-the-mill, ordinary, white bread, etc.
8. I live right down the street from FIVE GUYS and I bring MY OWN BUN. I thaw and microwave a Kinnickinnick bun and bring it and put my burger on it myself inside the restaurant. I have also brought Udi bread to eat as a bun, since I usually have some thawed and ready. I now have a place to buy SCHAR chibatta buns and I'll use those now. I LOVE SCHAR BUNS...
9. Epsom salts in a bath and cream and maybe wipes.
10. I tried two MM's in Atlanta. The first one was out of gluten-free crusts and the second one made the pizza, but I got very sick afterward. The pizza tasted fine. I got very, very sick. And I'm not a reactor to anything except gluten. I guess it's just the risk we take with a careless or untrained employee or cc or something.
11. My Marine was committed to a time-consuming motorcycle safety course all weekend (he has had a retro bike for a year that he isn't licensed to ride yet), so I packed up some Glutino pretzel sticks and crackers, Lara Bars (pb&j, peanut butter cookie), apples, Bunny Organic fruit snacks, and leftover...
12. Hi, Sounds like a fun festival. It's too bad food has such a social impact on our lives! That's what really makes gluten free life a challenge! I usually get a taffy apple, corn on the cob, or cotton candy at festivals. When I travel, I bring: gluten-free Granola Bars Chips Instant Grits Lara Bars Fruit Peanut BUtter (small packets at health...
13. Sounds like a great experience! What nurturing and compassionate people! As for the "friend", I've noticed that when we go through life's trials, often the people we would expect to step up in a supportive way, surprisingly, do not! However, the people we may not have felt a connection with, do step up. Some people are friends for fun times and chit...
14. Thanks! I love Wegman's! It's kinda far from me, but it's so great for gluten-free! I'll look for the orange circles next time! Wish every market labeled for gluten-free!
15. Maybe you could order some online or make a request at your grocery store to the manager? Good luck!
16. I hear ya. In the early days I bought some cookies and they tasted so great, only to find out they were the gluten kind. They were shelved right next to the gluten free kind and I must've grabbed wrong. Recently, I saw Rudi's bread in the frozen section next to the gluten-free breads, but it wasn't the gluten free kind, just organic. I was so disappointed...
17. Sorry to hear that you have been having a rough time. The gluten-free diet has been called the most difficult diet! I'm glad you found this forum and are open to information and learning more. Best of luck to you and I hope you feel better soon!
18. I hope you are feeling better now that you are living gluten free! Suggestions for eating out on the road: (When dining out, be sure to go over cross-contamination issues with the server.) Wendy's- I always go for the chili w/onions, or the baked potato, or the Frosty! They have an allergen list that shows what to avoid. Denny's- breakfast foods Chili...
19. I get Udi bread and bagels at Trader Joe's on Washington in Old Town! I also get Udi's bread and gluten-free Bisquick at Harris-Teeter in Crystal City!
20. It's hard to be social and excited to visit people's homes when the gluten issue is just always there. You feel like you can't relax. I'm always amazed when gluten free people say it's "no big deal" and that cooking gluten free isn't that hard, and they want non-gluten-free people to prepare meals for them and invite them over. For example, one retired...
21. Yes, I must say that I have had MANY safe and tasty gluten free dining out experiences, but I am all too aware that all it takes is one careless or unaware person... Yesterday at Chadwick's, a restaurant in Alexandria, VA, (also in Georgetown) that I frequent, my cobb salad came to the table loaded on a tray where the plates were overlapping! And my bf...
22. I've always liked the gingerbread flavored cookies they have, but I am leery to buy them since I bought a box and the cookies were hard on two occasions. I realize a lot of gluten-free products do not have the shelf life or preservatives of other products. Knowing this, maybe the company should mark a clear "best by ....date" on them??? I recently saw...
23. Since moving to the DC/Virginia area, Oyamel is a chow champion of mine, since it's near the museums (I left my car in California-no snowy driving 4 me). Not only do I volunteer at one of the Smithsonian Museums, but I set a goal to see as many of the museums/sights in this area as possible during our year here. Let's tangent to a museum/tourist list: So...
24. I tweeted this product review-Twitter at Gluten Free Bree-My bf's mom gave me a box of Simply Organic gluten-free cocoa brownie mix as part of a gluten free goodie package she mailed me for taking care of her son after his shoulder surgery. It was very easy to mix up, just stir in melted butter and eggs! It's certified organic, meaning the production of...
