New to all of this. But open to learning

Hi everyone.

I recently started dating a woman with celiac. I love cooking and baking. So I’m definitely interested in learning how to navigate this.

it’s a process. I’m starting off by cleaning everything I use, again, before I use it. Not using certain utensils that are wood, and harder to get really clean.

I’ll be getting some supplies that I can dedicate to her. And store them separately.

this is really just an intro. Not looking for advice here.  I can search the forums for that.

It’s wonderful that you’re trying to keep her safe from gluten!  Based on posts I’ve read here over the years, not everyone tries to keep friends/family/significant others safe.

Wow, your lady is very lucky to have you! After seeing stories about celiac being the cause of some people’s breakups, it is so nice to see something positive like this. Wishing the two of you all the best.

That blows my mind. But I also have a friend who I told about the cooking situation, and he said he wouldn’t be able to date someone who he’d have to change so much of his style for. Not starting a relationship makes a little more sense than ending one because of it. But neither actually makes sense to me. If you care about someone, you makes those adjustments, as best as you can.  If they care about you, they’ll help, and not judge you when you struggle

I’m trying my best. Definitely poisoned her once (luckily really mildly). Thought I cleaned my cutting board well enough. Since then, I got a mat that I’ll dedicate to her, until I get another actual cutting board. She’s extremely sensitive, so I’m doing everything I can, shy of having a completely dedicated kitchen (ideal someday, since I’d also like a space to bake with flour, too).

Welcome to the forum, @bpritch27! Is your daughter still consuming oats (even "gluten free" oats) and dairy?

Hello, I'm looking for some help/input on my daughter. She turned 3 in November and was diagnosed with Celiac Disease one year ago, just following her 24 month checkup. Last week she went in for her one year follow-up lab test and we were completely shocked when her Gliadin (Deamidated) AB (IgA) level came back at 148.3 U/mL. For reference, her initial lab was at 46, and her 3 months off gluten level was 25.3.  She has been 100% gluten free since 12/26/23, and her first lab test was showing improvement. We have hardly altered her diet in the last year, and everything she ingests is labelled gluten free. After the most recent lab test, we checked her body wash and found that it may contain gluten, but it was the same body wash she used a year ago as well when she was improving. Her medicine is gluten-free, her toothpaste is gluten-free.  My wife and I have been so careful to keep her away from gluten, and yet here we are at a complete loss as to how she has continued to be exposed. Any help or advice would be extremely appreciated!

@Bernade, you might find this helpful. Ultimately, it would be up to the parents of the students in question to begin dialog with school officials and get the ball rolling. But perhaps you could could pass this information onto the parents somehow:

I have celiac disease and work in public school kitchen it is not gluten free but I must be careful there are several students that have issues but haven’t heard anything about it it is not taken seriously in my opinion and it is I would love to find other resources that can be available for us but I also don’t know what to do or where….

What kind of issues have you had going to public schools? Are you gluten-free as well?
