Well took Tim in for his 1 year follow up (well FINE it was sposed to be 9 months, but no one is perfect! :D ) with his Pedi-GI. Got a great report all the way around. The Doc is not happy that he did not have a postive bisopy to point to, but said "it is hard to argue with the success of the diet". The diets success was amazing He said keep him on the diet, and while he does not like the idea of a gluten challenge for Tim (because of how bad he had gotten), he figures that its inevitible that sooner or later it would happen just by mistake or Tim decideing to test it himself when he gets a bit older. At 37 pounds and 38 inches tall he is back on track for growth at his age (about 2 1/2 yrs old ) Overall he is very happy with the results of the diet and is perfectly content to leave success alone. :)

Over all we are very happy with Dr Ridel. He seems to realy care, and know his stuff. He wants use to touch base yearly to make sure all continues to go well and talked about running some nutritional labs on him, I declined for today but next year we might. He said there was no indication that he had any nutrional deficiences now, and the test would only be precutionary standard procedure type thing.

Timothy continues to leap foward with mental development since being gluten-free, still behind but he has made up alot of ground and continues to shoot foward. In some areas he is even a head for his age, while others are still behind enough that we get free tutors from the state/city to help him catch up.

So thats that!

WooHoo! Dr. Reidel is Megan's Dr. too, or at least one of the MANY! I really like him. I think if we had found him a year ago we wouldn't be where we are now. I'm so glad Timmy is doing so good. God is good!

I am so glad you were able to see him and that he worked out for you, bieng so far away from Vandy I was not sure it would. Gosh I still laugh that after I recomend him to you I was surprised ot find out you were going to him! :lol:

I honestly and truely belive Timothy would not have lived to see today if gluten intorelance was not discovered. In away everyone here helped save his life!

      Anyone else get a lot of upper respiratory infections?

      Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat. In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue. A wedge...

      Anyone else get a lot of upper respiratory infections?

      I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired. I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years, I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young...

      Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

      Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways. I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux. Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following...

      Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.

      Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.
