Last week I did a favor for a customer that was really no big deal - just kind of an extension of my job. She was so appreciative that she brought me a See's Candy Gift Certificate! B)

I sent See's an e-mail because there is no mention of gluten on their website. This is the answer I got.

Thank you for visiting Sees.com. In response to your request for information about the presence of gluten in our candies, our Quality Assurance Manager has advised that we have reformulated our products and eliminated wheat as a direct ingredient in all of our candies packed in standard boxes. Therefore, none of our Custom Mix pieces contain gluten as a direct ingredient and cross contact is no longer a possibility. We do wish to advise that the distilled apple cider vinegar used in our Butterscotch Lollypops and Little Pops is grain based.

Recently, See's introduced several Sugar Free products to our product line. Our Quality Assurance Department is researching these candies to determine if gluten is a direct ingredient in the sugar substitutes.

We do have some products which are manufactured for us. Our Quality Assurance Department advises that our Milk Chocolate Drops, Super Chips, Sugar Sticks, Climber Canes and Sour Stars do not contain gluten. Our Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Foil Balls are gluten free; however, they are manufactured in a facility which contains gluten. Also, we are confirming whether there is any wheat, wheat gluten, or other wheat ingredients in our other Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate Foil Novelties which are manufactured for See's.

I don't think I know See's candy, is it US? If so, what kinds of things do they have :)

See's is from California and is generally found only in the Western US.

Someone brought me a box of See's once....and I've never forgotten it! They were seriously good chocolatess! VERY GLAD to hear that they're gluten-aware. I hope they ship (I'm in the Easter US.)

Sees candy does ship. Open Original Shared Link. I get my husband Sees candy every Christmas. I think he'd divorce me if I ever stopped. :) Their lollipops used to be dusted with flour, so I glutened myself with them right after my diagnosis. I was really happy when they changed the formulation. My work gets the volume discount too, so I get 30% off of most things. If you work at a large company, see if it is on the list as being eligible for the discount.

See's candies are the best!!!! I miss them so much now that I'm in Illinois - Fannie Mae's has nothing on See's!! :D

      Anyone else get a lot of upper respiratory infections?

      Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat. In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue. A wedge...

      Anyone else get a lot of upper respiratory infections?

      I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired. I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years, I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young...

      Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

      Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways. I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux. Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following...

      Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.

      Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.
