Well, any form of carb will bring one closer to diabetes, gluten or not.

But I do suppose wheat is one of the worse grains of them all.

the research is suggesting that it's not about carb content, it's about immune response:

(from the article): "An abnormal immune response to wheat proteins may contribute to type 1 diabetes, Canadian researchers say."

This article has a tiny bit more information: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/161480.php

This is the abstract from the journal article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1940142...Pubmed_RVDocSum (note that it suggests that this is a *separate* immune response than celiac)

Thanks, I'll send it to my sister and niece who are probably glassy-eyed from the info I send them, all to no avail.

I keep saying I won't send anymore but I get concerned, you know.
