Cleft Pallets

I've been wondering if cleft pallets are a result of Celiac. I have three cousins in the same family. 1 was born with a cleft pallet, she had a daughter born with a club foot and development problems, her brother died at the age of 32 from brain stem cancer and another sister had 3 children all 3 with cleft pallets.

Does anyone have any idea? Just curious.

After having read Dr. Weston Price's "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" I got to thinking about related developmental difficulties. Actually, I got quite angry after reading a book full of some pretty incredible observations written back in the late 1930's, I believe. Granted, he was not looking for gluten free but his inquiry into the role of nutrition and his unique interface of time, place and civilization made this a very important work, IMHO. I guess I am not answering your question directly but I wouldn't doubt if there were some sort of link. He talks about the link between primitive cultures and diet for expectant mothers and the awareness they would have of specific nutritional needs, even if only an innate awareness and not a clinical one. With all our clinical knowledge we seem to miss the boat at times. I think this would be an interesting topic for further study.
