Barley Soup

I usually make beef barley soup in my crockpot..but now that hubby can't eat gluten; that means barley's out? What can I use in it's place aside from gluten free pasta and rice..what else?

Quinoa? I don't eat it myself but others tolerate it.

Short-grain brown rice works great and even looks a lot like barley. You may have to search for it but it's worth the effort. At least for me, I think it tastes a lot better than long-grain brown rice.

Barley was always one of my favorite whole grains so it's nice having something similar.
