ARCHIVED end of my rope
kareng replied to ironictruth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That list doesn't agree with the legitimate Celiac Associations lists. -

And if they add wheat, it will be on the ingredients - in the US and some other countries. -
ARCHIVED twitching
kareng replied to ironictruth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have never seen a balsamic vinegar with gluten added to make it " creamy". Vinegar isn't creamy! And part of what you typed I don't understand... but I think suggesting that companies add wheat to vinegar to make it thicker is odd. Nobody expects, or wants, thick vinegar. Read ingredients if you are worried. -

Why? Balsamic is made from grapes! -
ARCHIVED Coffee?
kareng replied to Fbmb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They should be fine. If you read the ingredients on the box they came in - it probably just lists coffee. Plain coffee beans or ground are fine. I actually have never found a flavored coffee ( grounds or beans) to contain gluten but there is a small possibility they could use barley to sweeten them. Also I would read every instant coffee mix - especially... -
Get another doctor? After 6 years gluten-free, your villi should be fine! If they don't understand that basic piece of info about Celiac, they shouldn't be treating patients .

ARCHIVED Relief! And it isn't Dapsone!
kareng replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Maybe I am not making myself clear - you say than you actually have a diagnosis of Celiac disease, yet you choose not to treat it? You look for other things to be wrong with you. Great....maybe other things are wrong with you. But shouldn't you take care of the one you know you have and can treat- Celiac? Maybe if you actually healed from the Celiac...- 47 replies

I f you have used the BBQ grill for anything gluteny - I would just replace that rack. It is usually less than $20 if you don't buy a name brand one. I don't worry about my oven - obviously if something exploded, I wipe it up. You do cook your food on a tray or in a pan, I hope. Self clean actually goes to 600 F I think but your oven won't let you...

ARCHIVED Intolerances after going gluten-free
kareng replied to Jkta's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that people might not actually be developing new intolerance - it may just be that they are able to identify them now. You get the Celiac part mostly cleared up and feel lots better and now you notice that when you drink a big glass of milk, you get diarrhea. Or you eat something and get a headache. You didn't notice before, because you always... -
ARCHIVED Relief! And it isn't Dapsone!
kareng replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Even tho this is going off the topic the OP wrote about, I feel I must say something here. Posterboy - you seem to like to "research" on the internet. Certainly you have read about Celiac disease. Even the most basic reading will tell you that you always have Celiac and must always eat gluten free. It will tell you that there are more than just GI...- 47 replies

ARCHIVED Celiac/Wheat/Dairy/Oats/ - Breakfast Nightmare
kareng replied to MsIbiza's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can you eat rice? Try cream of rice cereal and some fruit. Or make your own rice and add raisins, cinnamon , cooked apples, etc. just like you might for oatmeal. If you cook the rice with extra water and a bit longer than it should be cooked, it will be more mushy and less separated pieces. -
ARCHIVED Just diagnosed, weight loss?
kareng replied to Fbmb's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
But, in a way, you are trying to lose weight & restrict calories. You have restricted your diet and cut out a lot of calories by not eating dairy and gluten, maybe fast food, etc -
ARCHIVED Prilosec Affect the Test for Celiac?
kareng replied to Ah978's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know any reason it would effect a Celiac blood test. I haven't seen any info about that -

I don't know if they are reliable or not. What test did you use? -
ARCHIVED When will brain fog and stomach discomfort clear?
kareng replied to emberdunn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you gluten free because you have been diagnosed with Celiac disease? Even if you have Celiac disease, going gluten free may not " cure" everything. If you have celiac, it can be months until you have fully healed.- 10 replies

ARCHIVED Confused and frustrated
kareng replied to Pinkdaisygirl's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
How did your Chiropracter diagnose you with Celiac? I am pretty sure he didn't biopsy your rash or small intestines. Also, are you actually allergic or just seem to have upset stomach issues with these other foods? Are they causing a rash? If you are really gluten free for 3 years, this rash may have nothing to do with gluten. -
What did the doc that ordered the test say when you called on Friday? As worried as you are, I can't imagine you would not have called and let yourself worry all weekend! If it was very serious, I am sure he called you Friday.

ARCHIVED I'd like to remove my address from being public
kareng replied to SoL's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Look at other members' profile pages. No one can see the address except Admin. He doesn't use it for anything except it occasionally helps with catching spammers. And there is nothing to stop you from changing the address to the address for the Orowheat bakery nearest you! -
And the winner of the Thanksgiving Over Achiever Award goes to......Ennis! That all sounds wonderful and a lot of work! Can I be your mom?

Here is a recipe I am going to make- Scalloped sweet potatoes and Granny Smith apples. Open Original Shared Link

I thought it might be fun to share some favorite gluten-free Thanksgiving favorites. Or ask for help making an old favorite from BC ( before Celiac) into a gluten-free recipe. Or maybe you have found a new recipe you are going to try and would like to share?

ARCHIVED Not Celiac Disease, But Gluten Intolerance?
kareng replied to SoL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to respond to the part I bolded - Corn, or any other food, does not trick your body into thinking it is gluten. -
ARCHIVED Is dairy okay in the first few months?
kareng replied to Rowan13's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Why are you gluten-free? Do you have Celiac? If you don't have Celiac, that part about the villi damage doesn't apply to you. You could just be lactose intolerant...or not. Also, the nonsense about " cross- reactors" wouldn't apply either. there is no scientific evidence of food that the body sees as gluten ( but aren't). -
ARCHIVED Potato starch free flour or bread?
kareng replied to Rowan13's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Potato starch is probably cheap. That doesn't mean you can't replace it with another starch like arrowroot.
