  1. Good luck with that! (did not even read the article, I just know the headline is ridiculous).
  2. Amen to that, dear Colleen. and I say "half full, half empty....eh, either way, it's time to go back up to the bar...." TONALYN.....a few more thoughts I have veal marsala, osso bucco, lasagne, gelato, antipasta, crostini and artisinal pizza in my cooking line up all the time This celiac can still rock Italian. Please do not despair....
  3. Now, THIS type of anger I can totally relate to. and in all fairness, I should have said that in my earlier post. My recovery was slow and I have several health issues because of years of misdiagnoses. but I had to get past that, too. I decided celiac was not going to rob me of one more minute of my life. I decided anger serves no purpose and...
  4. You really need to be actively consuming gluten for the antibodies to be present, but given your neurological symptoms, are you sure you want to go through the gluten challenge for testing?
  5. I was delighted to know what was killing me for years. Yes, I am one of the few who was thrilled to learn that one food protein was the reason I was dying and that by taking it out, I would live. You will have to make some adjustments in your view. Learn to cook. Enjoy food again. You can do this!!! I eat very well. My husband eats very well. (yes...
  6. Depends. What do the labels say? and NO, NO, NO on bulk bins with scoops! absolutely not.
  7. Only certified gluten-free cornmeal in my house. and..........quit yer bragging.
  8. hey, that's what we had on Tuesday! great minds. And that lone "encore chicken enchilada" was even better for lunch, the hubs reports..
  9. My Gramma used to make that...with whipped cream and it was scrumptious, as I recall. If I had the OOMPH, I make some right now. I will definitely save it for later. Thanks, Addy. I have to ask my Ma if she recalls how her Mother made it (just to compare). I am trying to decide between making lobster risotto or lobster salad on a crispy baguette with...
  10. I was just going to post this exact same suggestions and you beat me to it! so I will just say "do this". Melinda Dennis is wonderful ---as is her book Real Life with Celiac Disease. I highly recommend it to all celiacs and gluten- intolerants alike. Colleen's reply raises an important point. I recently got hit at a nice little breakfast/lunch...
  11. No, hon, I do not live in Ireland. I live in the States. My genetic test was done by blood work through my gastroenterologist. My neurological symptoms were varied: a bit of ataxia, burning neuropathy, parasthesia, disturbed vision, mental fog and inability to concentrate and articulate. My brain was deeply affected by gluten before my diagnosis. Scared...
  12. of course I am finding some parts of these presentations valuable. We're just expressing our opinions. I found this man's research on the neurological effects of gluten most valuable when I was researching my own symptoms and I will be listening to him later today.. Dr. Marios Hadjivassiliou
  13. Yes, but.....sadly, not everyone is able to discern the difference between experts and quackery. Some of the comments I am reading after the presentations tells me there is more "pseuodo-doctoring" going on by people who are not qualified. One mentions diagnosing her patients with muscle testing, another says colonic irrigation, others say hair analysis...
  14. yes..practical,solid, real life info from a registered dietician and fellow celiac
  15. love love love this woman. It's her book Real Life with Celiac Disease that I suggest to everyone on here (and everywhere).
  16. Celiac is not curable in the true definition of the word "cure". Once a celiac, always a celiac. But it has a treatment. It can be put into remission--as in a remission of symptoms triggered by gluten--when one follows a strict gluten free diet. That part is pretty black and white. I, too, have a problem with doctors. They missed my diagnosis...
  17. Those 3 are certainly leading celiac researchers. IMHO
  18. It is billed as: "29 of the world’s experts" that's an exaggeration. I counted a handful of world-renowned experts on that panel. "and opinion leaders on the topics of gluten-related disorders" "opinion leaders". I have opinions. I exhibit leadership skills. I know a great deal about gluten-related disorders. Wish I had been invited. The problem w...
  19. I found this to be the most erroneous and disturbing blatant piece of unscientific baloney I have heard thus far. Suggesting a young man committed suicide because he was depressed because he drank too much milk ? How can this man get away with saying this?. GLUTEN SUMMIT: DAY 3 REPORT "Why didn't our Doctors consider this?” she asked. Today, ...
  20. Yes. I'm sure. I've done the research too. I gave you a credible source above. Shelly Case. And the link Karen provided is to just one of the Celiac Centers that says it's safe for celiacs. Just saying "most sensitive celiacs and doctors say it's not safe" does not make it true. Sorry. In this case, I am going with experts that have been vetted many...
  21. oh sweetie, don't scare Addy with that image . ok, got a short burst of energy and made risotto with white wine and saffron to go with the lobstahs! I had to tell you that so you know I really am rebounding....slowly. damn gluten damn gluten damn gluten
  22. ! squaggle of lucii ( omg I almost peed) and I did not mean the rough steely thinger that you cut the aluminum foil with-- I meant the stoopit foil itself. Yeah, it cut me.I'm a delicate flower. okay, typingreallyfastnowtotellyouallthanksforthegetwellweishesandilurvsyou OK quick: the local fish market sent me $20 gift certificate. Their...
  23. Not sure where you are getting this information from Nick, but honestly, distilled alcohol is gluten free. Even vodkas from wheat. The distillation process renders it harmless. Celiac experts verify this information on many valid sites. You may not feel well drinking alcohol for many reasons, including the fact that your gut may still be raw but it is...
  24. It's the beans, but it should affect the taste if you use spices and flavorings . Did you taste them? what did you think? so..... got any left? um, may I have one? please.
