  1. I know full well the gut-brain connection (the production of seratonin and other neurotransmitters in the gut were surely affected when I was very ill before diagnsosis ) and so, I remain a steadfast believer in the healing powers of probiotics and their beneficial use for us celiacs with gut damage. I had virtually no "good guy" beneficial bacteria upon...
  2. and... we're a whole lot more capable of multi-tasking, facing adversity and more qualified at reading research and taking data, sifting through it and making sense of it all. Plus, we know BS artists before they even 'round the block. Tonalyn, did not mean to stray here, but as you can see, once you feel better, you'll be jibber- jabbering away like...
  3. None of us should care what this asshat thinks, but when he messes with my friends, I get "wicked pissed" and my Bostonian comes out. I said my peace about this guy on that original thread and I stand by it. And you, Barty. To use what c.comers say as his example of his twisted rants about gluten free diets for those of us who need it (celiac, NCGS...
  4. Exactly my point about HCL. Best to avoid them for now, hon.
  5. when I moved to NY, I registered as an Independent (which baffled my Dad ) and now that we live in Florida, this could get very interesting. I am not sure there is such a thing as an independent liberal conservative democrat. (I am such a mess) One thing I learned a long time ago, religion and politics never get in the way of a true friendship and...
  6. They are. My gene test was from Enterolab (long before I knew all the "particulars" about that lab) but my GI doctor did a blood genetic test on me while diagnosing me and it said the same thing their saliva results said. I am okay with their genetic testing...at least..... FWIW
  7. I gave away the bread machine, the pizza stone, pizza peel and all the bread making things Please believe me when I say it was difficult, but when we brought them down to this church food pantry and those women started weeping and hallelujiahing, I felt like I had done the right thing. They used to do this when we brought all the apples from our trees...
  8. hey, hey, hey now..!!.Cambridge born and bred girl standing right here and you know it, missy. The coolest republic I know is the Conch Republic of Key West...but I digress....carry on, you two. Tonalynn, I can honestly say Gemini (who I am now proud to call my friend) was one of the first to reach out to me when I came on c.com back in 2010, so...
  9. Great minds....That's the same one I posted above.
  10. Want my flat out opinion? FWIW? I would save up for the gene test. It will put your mind at rest and if positive, perhaps be the last thing that will get them on board. It was actually the genetic test (showing the double HLA- DQ2 genes from both of my parents) that convinced my Mother she was gluten intolerant herself (if not a full-blown celiac...
  11. First of all, I never think anyone's declining health is "in their heads". And if you look up "Somatization disorder" well, those symptoms are the same as undiagnosed celiac disease symptoms, so I do not buy that malarkey label! If doctors can't find the problem through blood tests, they are quick to say "idiopathic" or something worse. That said,...
  12. I would have agreed with you a few years ago, except ...my (then) 84-year-old Yankee Steadfast feet- in -cement -unbending Mom read all the materials I sent her after my DX. She had watched me almost die after 3 years of crashing so bad and she recognizing her own life-long symptoms (as well as the reason my dad surely died). She went G F immediately...
  13. Hey Jon, I also suggest reading the book Real Life With Celiac Disease by Melinda Dennis and Daniel Leffler. Tons of excellent advice by 50 celiac experts--on everything from the diet to living with WEs to nutritional advice to what the disease is all about. This book is awesome. Trust me! Here is another helpful article on tips for living with WEs...
  14. I second This. We've all got great guys! I do not know what I would have done without my man during those especially crazy sick years. A lesser man (i.e. hubs#1) would have walked for sure. I just adore him....hmmm, say, I'll think I'll go see what the hubs is up to...
  15. pulleeze!...Bostonian Irish Catholics= everything in the fridge and kitchen cabinets can become a casserole. I saw some strange things....
  16. Open Original Shared Link One speck of rat poison may not kill the rat, but it sure as heck will make him wish he was dead.. I found myself having some nasty symptoms last week and scratching my head trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Took me a few days, but I realized the little place I *thought* was capable of serving me a truly...
  17. Friday: Three Cheese, garlic and broccoli pizza Saturday: Grilled beef filets with sauteed portobellas, Caesar salad (I make mine old school with raw egg an all) Sunday: Pork tenderloin with fig glaze and roasted root veggies with salad of greens, apple, candied walnuts with cherry balsamic dressing **More importantly: tonight's gelato flavor...
  18. HI smallmeadow! As far as I know, ulcers can heal on their own (in the absence of h.pylori or other infection) but you should avoid GI irritants like NSAIDS, citrus, alcohol etc, for awhile. I don't think you'd actually feel any prickling sensation due to healing, IMHO. If anything, you'd feel no discomfort at all. If you were under a physician...
  19. Well a cold front moved through here and we were down to a frigid 79 on Wednesday. I actually saw some people with leather jackets or hoodies and sweats on. Really, people? IT'S 79!!! I'm still sitting on the beach for crying out loud. Good thing it went back up to 82 yesterday or these peeps would have been cranking up the heat. Can't wait until my...
  20. I also searched for information about bovine colostrum in 2010 because this was recommended to me by "an alternative practitioner". I balked at it. I know there is no evidence of its ability to heal a leaky gut. More anecdotal evidence and "may" and "could" offered in these interviews than solid info. I found some of the experts to be extremely interesting...
  21. Having had a recent slow, low-level glutening myself from a nice little lunch place I thought was doing all the right things back there in the kitchen for us G F peeps, I had to review and renew for myself what a shared kitchen actually means. Since I was stuck at home for the better part of 8 days (ahem) I had plenty of time to review it all in my foggy...
  22. always smelled a bit like puke to me but there was a time when I would eat it while traveling. gives meaning to the phrase "convenience food".
  23. I may just add that to my Newbie 101 thread...".toaster tossing is a rite of passage". Yes yes yes...to Everything Pegleg just said!!!!
  24. I do. I would never buy anything like that without a label on it. There problem with cross contamination is...it's not enough that the food is an inherently gluten free food, it's how it is handled. I would have no idea where those fruits and nuts came from or how they were put in the bins etc. For people with celiac disease and serious gluten intolerance...
  25. "Rectal challenge with gliadin does produce a measurable change in the numbers of intraepithelial T lymphocytes in untreated celiac disease and could serve a surrogate test for diagnosing gluten sensitivity, but as currently performed does not help to diagnose celiac disease in patients already consuming gluten-free diets." Found here: Open Original...
