The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Jammies here. I am under the weather. I have something--a stomach bug maybe?--I do not think I was glutened but we did go out to dinner Thursday for our anniversary. The meal was superb, complete with champagne and oysters, etc. The chef was sure the rack of lamb and bean ragout was G F. But we came home and I promptly hurled for 3 hours. My body... -
Not all liquor is labeled "gluten-free" but it is still gluten free. You do not have to drink potato vodkas exclusively. I sometimes drink Smirnoff or Stoli or Absolute---all gluten free.

ARCHIVED School Glue
IrishHeart replied to emsimms's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think glue is made from synthetic materials now. But if you are concerned, Elmer's glue is gluten free (their website states this in their FAQ section) You could buy some for your child and ask that it be kept solely for his/her use? -

IrishHeart replied to BrennanaBread's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
actually, I do recall reading that nosebleeds are an associated condition with celiac. "CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM PROBLEMS Disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Angina Pectoris Aortic Vasculitis Atherosclerosis Cardiomegaly Coronary Artery Disease Easy Bruising (Ecchymosis) Hypertension Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy Nosebleeds, Unexplained... -

ARCHIVED Amazing Lectures At The Gluten Summit

TBOLT: Of course you meant- IYHO. However in this thread alone you have disrespected and challenged the opinion( s) of others. Without the requisite " IMHO " preceding your opinion. I will respectfully submit, this is a passive aggressive way of challenging others to respond. Ouch.....I not only pontificate, I am passive-aggressive, too?. that's... -

IrishHeart replied to CR5442's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nope, I made my point. I'm good, thanks! You will notice that I always say IMHO or I provide any scientific /research information when I post. I would like to point out that you can make your point without being disrespectful. and challenging. -
When we go through the giant bread aisle and bakery section of BJs, I point and say "it's poison! poison, I tell ya!" really loudly and watch the people's faces. It's fun. (My poor hubs.).

A celiac's ravaged gut may not be able to handle alcohol right away. It is a gut- irritant and causes gastritis. Diarrhea is common with a gut that is still impaired. A simple diet for the first 6 months may be your best bet. Recovery sometimes takes patience. Hang in there!

Pontificating...?! You are implying that those of us expressing an opinion here are "pontificating"? Gee whiz. The administrator of this forum thinks we are all expressing our valued opinions, worthy of discussion and he heartily encourages us to do it. Often. (Honest, you can ask Scott if you do not believe me!) Okay, I was with you up... -

I would say so, dear girl. I just could not do another long winter in NY. Just could not do it. I hope you feel better soon. I did a series of exercises for my SI joint...I trust the chiro gave you some? Just recall how much better you felt a few months ago while you were away. It will come back to you!. Hang in there honey. I wish I could take that... -

ARCHIVED Floaters - And I'm Not Talking About Vision
IrishHeart replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
IMHO (and sadly, I confess I know a lot about poop!) your "product" sound perfectly normal to me. Floating poop is not a sign of any problem that I know of, so CONGRATS! (now if you had steatorrhea, then you'd have a problem.) Keep up the good work! -
You raise an interesting question, and I gave it some real thought before answering (hey, I'm living down here in Paradise now and we work at a slower pace, what can I say?) ... and I'd have to say I'd be more concerned by the more likely probability that your food would be contaminated by the OTHER icky stuff that fly might dip his little legs in...

ARCHIVED Glutened Or Just Healing?
IrishHeart replied to moosemalibu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
omygosh.....This. Is. Me. I'm like the 3 year old who asks "why? why? why?" until I find the answer (which is good because that's how I finally got diagnosed and stopped that dying thing. I took digestive enzymes for the first 6 months after diagnosis. Before every meal. My GI doc said "It probably didn't hurt" as the pancreas was surely affected... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
IrishHeart replied to Mac0030's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Did Anyone See Friday's Ellen Show?
IrishHeart replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We had a member here (Skylark) who once said this funny truth about having celiac: "It's like having a built-in "jerk-o-meter". You'll know soon enough who your friends are and who will love you for YOU, never thinking your very real disease is a joke or an imposition or that you are "making it up". So glad I was married when this sucker hit... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Questions About Whisky
IrishHeart replied to KCG91's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nothing to worry about there. Plain alcohol is gluten free. But at 2 months post- diagnosis, your gut is still pretty raw. Maybe you should hold off on the booze for now until you get a few months of healing in? Just a suggestion. -
ARCHIVED Best Way To Mix 12 Cups Of Spices Together

Awesome gift idea! Laura that is so sweet of you to take the time to type all that out. Newbies will truly appreciate it! I suggest you cut and paste the whole thing to a new thread and call it "Homemade Taco Seasoning Mixes for Christmas Gifts" or something like that because it may get lost in this one. It's just so much good info. oh,and the... -
ARCHIVED Gaps Diet Question? And Yoghurt Recipe?
IrishHeart replied to YPG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to respectfully disagree that she is not suggesting this diet treats these conditions. (I do not know what she says about celiac.) The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Laura, I usually make a quick ratatouille with zucchini, but you could just make Zu-noodles. I have a craving for veal parmesan and I have not made sauce for ages, laying off tomatoes for a while so I can stop feeling like crap, so that's what's happening today. Fingers crossed they like me again. I found this pasta at Whole Foods and I'll give it...
