  1. I have so many stupid doc stories, arrogant replies that would make you wince and say "what a jerk!" but the worst ones happened before my DX. I was desperate to have some relief from the nerve/joint/bone pain-- so I saw several rheumies and neuros and a pain management doctor with the empathy of a rock. "First do no harm"? Yeah, right! A few from my collection...
  2. Not to interrupt the flow here, but me too! DQ2.2 and it is supposedly considered "rare"--about 1-2% of the celiac pop.? I am wondering where you found that info??--- because I'd love to bring it to my new (very cool) GI--who said he has never seen celiac manifest with so many devastating symptoms as I have. He is very gracious about accepting...
  3. Are you kidding? I'd LOVE the company! C'mon over! Truth be told, when I was very sick for 3 years and unable to eat much or cook like I really can because of serious brain fog and weakness, meals around here were BLAND and BORING--poor hubs! So I am making it up to him! It was my cooking that attracted him in the first place. ...so the story...
  4. Mixed grille tonight: (it's actually 50 degrees in NYS today--global warming ??) and so, garlicky loin lamb chops for me and sausages for hubster. with baked sweet potatoes (after baking, I whip them with butter, brown sugar and a dash of cloves or allspice and cinnamon) and braised brussel sprouts (saute some shallots, add some stock...
  5. This sounds like a yummy spread, C-Kip!
  6. Me too! gee, hon...I wish I had known you were worried about blue cheese. I would have told you it is less likely that it is made that way anymore. (More gluten/celiac myths we can bust! ) Some companies still make it that way, but BelGiosio and Maytag do not. http://glutenfreecooking.about.com/od/soupsandsalads/f/Is-It-Safe-To-Eat-Blue-Cheese...
  7. Filets, baked potato, steamed asparagus. Simple.... but only because I spent the afternoon making a cake! My first gluten-free cake since DX. I've done pies, cookies, muffins, brownies, rolls, bread, pancakes, and a ridiculously outrageous flourless chocolate cake...but no layer cake yet. I felt like a challenge this afternoon. I used my...
  8. Sounds good. I am thinking I am still not ready for too many prepared foods, just yet ....but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the tip!
  9. Adult? responsible? bah! I'm neither of those. Wow--chocolate tapioca --you ARE on to something.!!!! Yes, one good thing about not being a child is...no one tells us what to do! I have some tapioca pearls in the pantry.....hmmmm
  10. You're such a trooper! So brave.....
  11. Dessert first--- works for me! How was it???!! I LOOOOVE tapioca pudding. My favorite lunch as a kid (besides PB and J for about 6 years straight ) happened when my big sister was in charge. We got hot fudge sundaes for lunch. And a stern: "Don't tell Ma!"
  12. Here in reality land, we are having white pizza with 4 cheeses, garlic and broccoli tonight and a side of red bell pepper soup (encore! encore!) Because I am not especially perky right now, we are using MarilynR and KarenG's most excellent suggestion: CHEBE dough for the crust. I have to say, that stuff is damn good. Hubs is having the oatmeal...
  13. Oh, honey--that just sounds awful. However did you manage to choke it down? Lamb shanks.....my favorite. (drool drool) tapenade, cream brulee. You're killin me, woman.
  14. You're making me jealous, Irisheart! I'd love to purchase meat from the farmer! The newly adopted dog was ready to do backflips for a pinch of the bun. She's a hoot!
  15. Doesn't sound odd to me. I did that myself for many years. "How can I make this better?" --or if we tasted something extraordinary down in NYC or Seattle or in Maine or in Ireland (or wherever the hell we were), I'd start the wheels in my head..."ok, how did she DO that?" and then go home and try to recreate it. I met Jasper White once at his restaurant...
  16. Well, now you made ME smile, C-KIP! Thanks a bunch. I needed that today.
  17. Pork tenderloin with roasted garlic and a port wine mushroom sauce, oven-baked sweet potato fries, homemade applesauce and homemade corn bread. The sun's out. Makes me more ambitious, I guess.
  18. There is nothing quite like fresh, is there? It sounds yummy! We get chicken, pork and beef from the local farms sometimes and of course, it is far better than store bought stuff. A Brazilian store, eh---not sure we have one of those around, but I will check. That tap starch price is awesome!
  19. Yeah, that's what we are all thinking. Sweetie, your idea of "boring, dull and lifeless" is 5- star dining for some people who may have no culinary skills or access to specialty foods. They do not find anything you post "dull", I am sure. They mostly just want to come live with you. Have a good trip!!!
  20. My Creamy Red Bell Pepper Soup & Hub's homemade bread and my major dairy indulgence, thick creamy Irish Butter.
  21. Just beautiful, Simona! and thank you for sharing all your recipes and pictures with us!
  22. I'm hanging in there, Beebs, thanks! How's beautiful NSW? All right, I'm trying SOMETHING NEW TONIGHT. (speaking of crockpots...) I have a slow cooker I received as a gift (2009)and I HAVE NEVER used it once --I know, what was I waiting for? I don't know--so I am making: Butternut Squash Soup (it's Kelli and Peter Bronski's recipe...
  23. Oh, I want THAT instead-- sounds de-lish---Hi beebs! (IH is waving hand)
  24. I always say encore (not leftovers) because if it was so yummy the first time, I want it AGAIN--the flavors just get better anyway!! Enjoy your encore! We're having homemade chicken noodle soup tonight. But I confess---it's from the totally dedicated Gluten Free Cafe/Bakery we go to after my physical therapy on Monday and Thursday--it's my reward...
