  1. That's a great tip. I've stopped taking it so I'll give it another try!
  2. Yes - seeing close up is what brings on my one eye aura. I went to the doctors and the opticians and they seemed to think that as I am predisposed to migraines it was just another type. I've had a few MRIs in the past but they didn't offer me one on this occasion. Perhaps they felt as I was a migraine veteran I didn't need to have further tests, but as...
  3. Hi Cathylinds Have you suffered from any type of migraine before? I seem to have had all sorts through the years. Pain and nausea, often starting in my neck, then auras both eyes, and after going gluten free a rapid improvement, only to get what they think is an aura in my right eye when I peer at black and white print which started after about...
  4. Thank you Matt. Celiac Kryptonite - love it! Especially as it was the end slice, so not just pastry on the edges, but on the side. The annoying thing is that I'd just been going through a bit of a good patch of health and I had to go and ruin it. I actually did take a photo of the shelf to send to M&S to say they oughtn't put their scrummy ordinary...
  5. Hi Jmg An old thread but I just wondered, when you say you have delayed reactions - is this still the case? I was dx'd back in 2013 and have really tried very hard to stay away from gluten. But a couple of weeks back my hubby bought me a gluten free pork pie from M&S. Except.... it wasn't! Oh, and I can tell you it was delicious. I should...
  6. Thanks, Wheatwacked. I think you are right to be careful about the long term use of inhibitors for this type of issue. I think sometimes, when used judiciously in short term, they can nip something in the bud before it gets worse, though. Interestingly a friend of mine with wheat intolerance and gastritis has recently been told that there is move...
  7. I just wondered if anyone else suffers from burning pain in their stomach, just to the left of my sternum, when stressed and when hungry. Normally when I relax the pain goes and I rarely have difficulties with it at night. I've recently had a normal biopsy with no sign of active celiac disease, gastritis or ulcer. A normal ultrasound of my abdomen too...
  8. Hi Plumbago Thanks so much for your post and for your tips - and the link. I must confess I am now a member of the "Go to Emergency with heart attack symptoms - leave with a DX of costochondritis" Club! That happened to me back in February when I had some bad pain in my ribs. At that time the cartilage between my ribs was very, very painful -...
  9. An update for those interested - in case it helps. Just to say that after about a year of the pain I described in my first post, the pain dwindled and almost went. At its worse I had itchy pain in my lef ribcage and also it started a few weeks later on my left hip area/sacroiliac joint/referring to groin. One doctor said shingles without the rash...
  10. Hi there Just chiming in because I too have left sided pain, a lot around my lower ribs. I have just been diagnosed with costochondritis. My cartilage in my ribs is inflamed, I dug around a bit yesterday trying to figure out which - looking at an image of ribs on the internet - and discovered it is the cartilage in my 5th and 6th ribs. What a mistake...
  11. https://www.twinings.co.uk/hot-chocolate-coffee-other-drinks/hot-chocolate-and-malt-drinks/twinings-swiss-chocolate-drink Have discovered this drink - it's great, labelled gluten free and is also fortified. I can't drink too much milk as I get bloated, but find it tastes really nice even made mostly with hot water and just a small amount of milk. ...
  12. Just a thought... I had ongoing tingling etc and I think it was when I mentioned this to my gastro he added a folic acid test to my slew of bi-annual blood tests. It turned out I was borderline normal. I seem to recall, too, that someone posted on this forum who had these symptoms and it was caused by too much B6. So maybe a couple of other...
  13. Well, having trawled through mountains of mince pies I have concluded Sainsburys and Costa deserve joint first prize for the standard type; Sainsburys for the iced type. But the problem is the latter sold out days before Christmas. I didn't get to eat a Morrissons pie, nor an Asda one (if they do them). What do you think, JMG?
  14. A very helpful post. Thank you, I'm going to try this.
  15. Thank you Tescos! Some decent, gluten free, OAT FREE (yay, I'm one of the 10-20% who can't handle them) Christmas shortbread. Delicious! If you are reading, Tescos, please keep more of your products oat free, then 10-20% more of us will buy them! https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/297117886
  16. Hi JMG I'll send you some iced mince pies if you cannot find any! Nil desperandum! They are in the larger stores so they must be elsewhere - maybe you need to try a bigger branch? There is a small one near us and it had none... The other bit of good news is Cadbury's Heros has the chunks in it this Christmas. And guess what - a nut warning, but...
  17. Ahoy there Fellow Mince Pie Fanciers! Yes, I have to say that the iced mince pies from Sainsburys top the bill - mind you, probably not for the purist, or those who do not have a sweet tooth. I am ashamed to say I think I have consumed five boxes since November!! Nothing piles on the pounds quicker than those iced mince pies. The Costa mince...
  18. Hi there. This caught my eye as I got phlebitis which wouldn't shift for month when I was in my late teens. My sensible GP at the time said I just had blood that clotted easily and to never take the contraceptive pill. Fastforward to my diagnosis at 45 (I'm now 50) the docs discover that even while my blood iron has been low, my haemoglobin is...
  19. I say, JMG - half a lemon meringue pie in one sitting? Steady on, old chap... (Actually, I think that shows great restraint!)
  20. Num num num. I'm losing count of what products we have posted on this long thread, but just in case these haven't been I'd say they are worth a try for those who miss cheescake and can't be bothered to make one. Well done Tescos. https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/295348454?sc_cmp=ppc*GHS+-+Grocery+-+New*PX+|+Shopping+GSC+|+All+Products...
  21. Thank you. I think I am now on the road to recovery but it is strange, my system still feels not quite right when I'm hungry. It is a different version of 'feeling sick because I am hungry' than I had before. I don't know, perhaps it's nothing to do with the gastritis, probably old age. Nowt a mince pie and some Hendersons Relish won't fix!! As regards...
  22. Ahh... mince pie season again. I had a very pleasant experience at our local hospital the other day. I was waiting to see the gastroenterologist and decided to call in at the hospital Costa for a mint tea (still being careful having had gastritis all summer) and couldn't resist something to eat. When one recovers from gastritis, one shouldn't have an...
  23. I had to comment as although I don't think I've had this reaction to glutening, I have had it when I have had to take iron and also now with ongoing suspected gastritis. I figure it is bloating, and get some relief when I drink hot water or mint tea. All the pressure is under my rib cage and I recall once crossing the road in town wondering if I'd actually...
