Should I Push For Celiac Specialist....

I know some of you have been very kind and responded to my thread about my little boy getting the one test (IgG tgg) back "slightly elevated.  I am trying to get an appointment set up with Texas Children's.  I just made the appointment for Monday with a general GI, but I noticed on their website that they have a celiac specialist. My question is why should I see a general when we know it is likely celiac we are dealing with.

I called and asked how I could get in to see the specialist and they said when they read the file they determine where the patient needs to go (what kind of dr), and that the only way they would possibly be able to get him straight to the celiac specialist is to have the Dr call personally and talk to their on call Dr.  I don't want to be overly demanding and I know there are plenty of kids out there in much worse health than my son ( I am extremely grateful that he is as healthy as he is) but I want to get the ball rolling on all this.  It seems as though the general appointment will likely just get me referred to the celiac dr?????  What do y'all think?  Should I push my Dr to help us get straight into the celiac dr, or just go to the general like they are saying I am supposed to?  Thanks for any insight!!!

It would make sense to me to see the specialist, but I never did see a specialist so I don't know how helpful it would be. I guess it depends on the doctor, some are better than others.

I'm sure someone else will chime in with more help that I can give.

Good luck!

Thanks.....I called the Dr and he wants me to see the general.  The nurses words were "he wants to make sure there is nothing other than celiac going on".  Which kind of worried me a bit, but I understand, he wants someone to rule out things and actually make the diagnosis of celiac first.  Thanks again!
