  1. Listen to Squirmingitch - she is our resident expert. She really knows her dh stuff! I don't know as much so I'll just wish you luck on finding answers fast.... and welcome to the board.
  2. When I first went gluten-free I lost about 10 lbs without doing a thing because of the inflammation departing. I got down to about 150lbs, which for a large framed 5'8" woman, isn't bad. Then about a year and a half ago I started gaining weight. I blamed it on the corticosteroids I had started but it continued after I stopped taking them. My guess is...
  3. LOL Good update. I'm glad it was nothing! Annoying that he caused you so much stress... Dud is right! LOL
  4. She only had one celiac disease test done, and that test, the tTG IgA, can miss up to 75% of celiacs. Plus she did not have the total serum IgA done, which is a must for determining if the IgA based celiacs tests (tTG IgA, DGP IgA, etc.) are accurate. Approximately 1 in 20 celiacs is deficient is IgA (compared to approx. 1 in 700 of the regular population...
  5. If she is not eating anything while there, or walking through a flour dust cloud, then it is most likely not celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS. for which there is no test. That disease and sensitivity are triggered by consuming gluten, meaning it has to get inside and onto your mucus membranes. Celiacs can handled normal baked goods...
  6. Yep! A trauma to the body can trigger celiac disease, and we all know pg is a bit of a trauma! LOL
  7. I get frustrated by those who are supposedly gluten-free but don't worry about the crumbs, or soy sauce, or eat the turkey stuffing because it looks so good. Those are the ones who get to me because they make it harder for people to take my needs seriously, since they don't take it seriously themselves. If they want to eat gluten-lite, that's fine, but...
  8. I doubt there would be a risk of cc... I suppose it could be possible. If you are worried, wipe the tip of the tube before using it.
  9. Yep, some foods just bother some people. For me, it is raw apples and pears. It causes a raw strong pain that feels like gluten would, but it is a completely unrelated reaction. It's just a food that doesn't agree with me. I too think it's odd that a nutritionist would warn you about grapes unless you had already complained that grapes bother you?
  10. I agree that your meals are high in starches (which gets changed to sugar in the body) and that will cause your blood sugar to go up and down dramatically. It sounds like hypoglycemia to me too, perhaps being affected by low blood pressure too. Perhaps switch to whole or 2% milk, get yogurt at 9% fat instead of 1-2%, and try adding more meats or nuts so...
  11. I hear you! If I drink wine I turn into Rudolf within minutes!
  12. I made that same mistake a year ago too. I hope you feel better.
  13. I agree. If there was no gluten in sourdough it wouldn't have that typical springy bread texture. There's gluten in it. Don't be fooled.
  14. I'm glad nothing is too high for you, but that almost works against you because nothing is as clear cut. I hope that MRI goes well and there is no sign of a pituitary adenoma. Let me know how the OGTT GH suppression test and the MRI goes. I hope they clear you of any problems and your abnormal labs were just an unexplained blip like mine.
  15. This article discusses how hypothyroidism can cause lower IGF-1 so I assume it would go up if one was hyper (which I was when I first started natural desiccated thyroid hormones). http://www.clinchem.org/content/50/1/228.full And another: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2265.1987.tb00842.x/abstract?deniedAccessCustomisedMessage=&userIsAuthenticated...
  16. Hi Caturday, I was tested for acromegaly using the glucose tolerance test for growth hormone supression. Those with acromegaly don't suppress (usually) their GH after the sugar drink and I did so it is assumed I don't have acromegaly. I don't have a lot of sympytoms, and the ones I do have are really mild and vague - it could be attributed to other things...
  17. (((Hugs))) When it rains it pores. :( Hang in there. It sounds like you are working hard to get this all sorted out. I hope you are healthy again soon.
  18. You can also by (olive) oil sprayers/squirters in stores that sell kitchen gadgets.
  19. I love smoothies for plying my kids with nutrition. I add carrots and peeled cucmbers to fruits to make it better. I also always add hemp seeds/hearts for extra fat and protein. When I use chocolate protein powders I can slip in more greens like avocado or spinach and the chocolate hides the green colour. LOL Cool is nice too.... especially f it is...
  20. I forgot to mention dairy. About half of all celiacs are lactose intolerant when they are diagnosed. That could cause some problems for him too until he is healed in about 6 months or more.
  21. This is just a guess, but could it be a bit of conditioning to heave after eating that is helping to cause this? I mention it because when I was pregnant I was sick multiple times in a day and lost 20 pounds in the first couple of months. I couldn't keep in much. When the nausea started to pass, if I even looked at a toilet bowl it would come roaring back...
  22. I'm sorry for your loss. My father also died of pancreatic cancer, but it was many years ago. I do wonder if he was an undiagnosed celiac. I think it is wise that you avoid all gluten if you suspect celiac disease and are unable to test for it. Better safe than sorry. Welcome to the board.
  23. I developed back acne in the past couple of years since going gluten-free BUT I started thyroid treatment at the same time so I'm guessing it is related to that and not to being gluten-free.
  24. I think it may be more of a matter of not having the proper gut bacteria that can help with digestion. Many people I have talked with about this said that it took them a while to adjust to a greater amount of raw fruits and veggies when their diets changed. Maybe it takes a while to get accustomed to the raw foods. It could also be other food sensitivities...
