Pain After Endoscopy

Hello

Had my endoscopy on Saturday and since then I have been nauseous with knawing pain going through from my chest to my back, fuzzy headache and fluey. They checked for h pylori with byopsies although I've have this before and all tests are currently negative.

My results only showed mild gastritis and hyperplastic pendunculated polyps and they took biopsies there too. Also took 4 for celiac but there was no visible damage. I'm probably not celiac as bloods were normal apart from anemia. The doctor wasn't concerned there was anything life threatening was going on but took 7 biopsies in total.

I just wondered has anyone else reacted badly to the endoscopy, If so will this clear up soon?

I did see the Gp and she told me to up omeprazole and domperadone.

Thanks for reading and any advice would be very much appreciated x

Hi SuzyWong ~

I'm sorry you have had such a rough time of it since your endoscopy. I had one done (with a colonoscopy) on May 8, 2014. It took me about five days to get to feeling better. I have IBS and have heard the prep is especially hard for those of us with that. It was my second colonoscopy and I don't remember having any problems recuperating from the first one. This time, I took my good sweet time in getting back onto solid foods after I realized I wasn't popping back as fast as others had. I basically lived on bananas & avocados until I was handling them well.

I hope you get to feeling better very soon!

Hello

Many thanks for your support. It's good to know I am not the only one who was unwell. It has taken me a whole week to get over the nausea, headache and gastritis. Funnily enough I had an endoscopy five years ago and it was fine. My body reacted Badly this time. A few years ago I had a colonoscopy and like my endo I did it without sedation. Unfortunately they discovered my bowel had narrowed and become tortuous and they had to find a very small camera before they could proceed and I then had to get sedation! I haven't heard of anyone having this problem and don't think it's a celiac problem?

21 days in total for results!

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Hi SuzyWong ~ Yes, it does help to know that others are (or have been) in the same boat. I'm really sorry you've had such a hard go of it. I can't imagine having either of those procedures done without sedation! I'm not a fan of being put out, but I will say that this time they used propyphal (not sure of the spelling) on me and it worked like a charm. No druggie hangover or wooziness whatsoever. I am older (61 y/o) and I am quickly learning that as we age, our bodies take longer to return to "normal" (whatever that is!).

As for the narrowing they found in your bowel, how did they remedy that? Did they tell you what might have caused it? Again, I'm so sorry you've experienced such a hard time.

My son had a bad reaction to the endoscopy and recovered before I started freaking out, but I don't remember details anymore.  I'm guessing he was better within a week or so.  I hope you get better soon, and if you don't, go back to the doctor.

Well the good news is that I am feeling much better (for the moment) and horrible symptoms have magically disappeared! Still have my joint pain a and other issues but on the whole I feel so much better. Having a scan of my lower back on Friday and hoping it throws up something I can work with. I have joint hyper mobility which is getting worse with age.

As for my bowel, well there was no advice given but I suspect constipation doesn't help hypermobility because the lack of collagen causes body parts to stretch beyond the normal range. Anyway that's my theory for now. I assume this is what causes the constipation.

You take care and again thanks so much for listening. If I get a positive result from endoscopy, no doubt I will be back for a wee moan :) x

Thanks for replying and sending your son a wee hug. At least he has done it and won't need it again anytime soon. Take care x

Hi dilettantesteph ~

So sorry about your son's negative reaction to the endo. Glad he was able to heal. Thanks for sending good health wishes. Since I'm eating way more fiber now and drinking lots of water, I'm s-l-o-w-l-y coming around. Oh, and moving and getting more exercise seems to be helping too. I hope your son's health is stable now.

If you're ever in the Peoria IL area - Queen of Squash is 100% gluten-free.   Pekin (just outside Peoria) Whiskey Taco is 90% gluten-free.  The owner's mom is Celiac so they get it!   Just let your server know.   https://thequeenofsquash.com/ https://whiskey-taco.com/

Do you have online access to your celiac panel test results such that you could post them? tTG-IGG is kind of a secondary test. A weak positive in that one could indicate celiac disease but since it isn't as specific a marker as the tTG-IGA it is not real convincing. You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) for which there is no test. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. It is 10x more common than celiac disease and shares many of the same symptoms. Some experts believe it can be a precursor to celiac disease. The antidote for both is the same: total avoidance of gluten.

I haven't been on this forum for a long time, but it was absolutely wonderful during the diagnostic process!  My path for celiac disease diagnosis was the following: -Had normal IgA level, and my only serology positive test was the DGP IgG -Deficiencies in both Vitamins D and K that did not increase at first despite massive supplementation -Diagnosis of fat malabsorption both total and neutral -Diagnosis of severe exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) -Testing was completed to rule out causes of EPI, and the only one not ruled out was celiac. -Both traditional endoscopy and pill capsule endoscopy yielded negative results for biopsy confirmation, but my GI doctor said that both procedures simply could have missed the damaged spots. -EPI and fat malabsorption resolved after taking Creon for 6 months since my EPI was caused by celiac -23 and Me said I don't have either of the two prominent genes for celiac disease   Remember that you might not have 'textbook' symptoms, but you still may have celiac disease.   Also, I am SO incredibly grateful for this site for all the learning it has allowed me to do. I have a senior dog, and these last few weeks with her were very scary! After two hospital stays, she finally received an IBD diagnosis after having gastroenteritis and pancreatitis. I know that celiac disease is not IBD, however, through reading this site, I learned more about it. I was relieved when I found out she had IBD and not cancer this past Wednesday. I know IBD can be managed thanks to what I've learned here!  So celiac.com, not only did you help me, but you helped my pup too! Thank you ❤️

It was tTG IGG that was flagged high. I'm not sure about the other stuff. I'm still eating my normal stuff.

Thank you for your post, @Nedast, and welcome to the forum. It is interesting to read of your experiences. Although I've not had TMJ, from time to time I have had a bit of mild pain in my jaw, sharp stabbing pains and tingling in my face which appears to have been caused by issues with my trigeminal nerve.  I read that sometimes a damaged trigeminal nerve in coeliacs can heal after adopting a gluten free diet.  I try to keep out of cold winds or wear a scarf over my face when it is cold and windy, those conditions tend to be my 'trigger' but I do think that staying clear of gluten has helped.  Also, sleeping with a rolled up towel under my neck is a tip I picked up online, again, that seems to bring benefits. Thank you again for your input - living with this sort of pain can be very hard, so it is good to be able to share advice.
