Hi there!
I am looking for insight from anyone that may have insight on what is going on in my body. I have had 6 years of fuzzy head and GI issues (bloating, constipation, nausea, pain, discomfort). I cut out gluten 3 years ago. Then did a IgG mediated food allergy test with a holistic doctor and did a food elimination diet based on those results. So I now avoid dairy and gluten and tomato. I notice i have flare ups when I consume corn so I am trying to be more strict about it lately but I get a week long of nausea/heartburn/acid reflux when i do eat it.  I also started following a low fodmap diet a few months ago due to still not feeling great and when I follow all of these things (gluten free, dairy free, corn free, low fodmap) I feel the best I ever have, although it is very hard to sustain. Also, i still have random spouts of horrible heart burn and nausea occasionally and cannot pinpoint it. I also am on a PPI for this. I have had a hydrogen breath test in 2015 and it was negative. I also have had multiple EGD's and Colonoscopies that have been unrevealing besides a stomach ulcer which is now healed and some esophagus irritation most recently. I am now scared of eating so many foods because I have had so many days of not feeling right. I have considered getting more strict on the corn restriction or maybe considering nightshade free because I am not sure what to do/if Fodmap is really helping since it isnt all the time and I am stressed about what I can even eat anymore. Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks in advanced,
Sara

Sounds like your following the food elimination diet and finding your issues pretty well. Might consider taking a digestive enzyme to help break down your foods. Everyone is a bit different in what their bodies handles I know some who can not handle fats and lots of protein and others like me who can not have carbs sugars and live on a keto diet of fats and protein. I also found meat/animal fats to be a enzyme issue with me so I avoid it and only still eat egg whites and sometimes fish or crab.
Your not alone, I have Celiac so gluten free, Corn allergy....that was a toughy and it is in damn near everything processes, whey allergy, lactose intolerant, soy intolerant, peanut intolerant and sugars/carbs cause my ulcerative colitis to flare....spices also have to be consumed in moderation...I often over use them and feel the consequences.

I get random rolling intolerance it seems...right now got a Iceberg lettuce intolerance with projectile vomiting.....red leaf is fine and I am completely freaked and and stumped by it. Oh well body says no I removed it. Sometimes eating foods so many meals in a row seems to cause a issues and my dietician suggest rotating foods even removing certain foods for 2-7 days at a time to prevent new issues. SO I rotate the seeds/nuts I eat for fats and the leafy greens I use, I also rotate cuisine herbs/seasonings/sauces weekly/bi weekly to keep me entertained with cooking.

Mast cell syndrome, Histamine Intolerance, and Tanins might be things to look into. The latter cut into my life a bit, I have to choose which higher histamine foods to eat for a meal and avoiding eating too many, I also have to avoid having to much iodine which can cause histamine and antibody reactions to be more severe. Tanins can harden proteins you eat making digestion harder, so avoid high tanin foods with high protein/fat meals. Funny how web of foods work.

You mention PPIs, have you had the acid tested? You need to know if you have a very acidic stomach or not. I am odd....My stomach is broken from a OD with caffeine when I was kid. So my pumps never turn off without PPIs...IE I just burp up acid all day and all night without them. But at the same time after testing I found the PH of my acid in the evenings was higher then it should be and not acidic enough just barely so I have to take a half-1 capsule of Betaine HCL with my Pancreatic Enzyme supplement in the evenings. Might be worth looking into.

Supplements, Constipation, muscle fatigue, and some fog issues can be attributed to Magnesium Deficiency, Natural Vitality Calm is best here starting off 1/4tsp dose and slowly up it over a week til the full dose or you get loose stools then back it back down. Gram measurements can be more accurate for dosing.....I learned the hard way lol.
B-Vitamins....work wonders with fogginess and energy and a complex blend of them is needed to work right. I use Liquid Health Stress & Energy and Neurological Support, 2tbsp each 3 times a day.
Vitamin D is another common issues with celiac and might be worth looking into.

Hi Sara

In my experience there is no logic to food intolences and like you my first source of info was an IgG test which indicated all dairy, oats, eggs, soya and silly things like MSG, pears and cashew nuts! Through experience I have added preservatives suphates, sulphites etc. to that banned list.  In reality this means that I eat from scratch - no processed foods at all. I also know that the IgG test was 80% accurate.

There is no magic cure out there yet but the best thing to do is cook your own food from basic ingredients and do not go near take-aways.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

You might try an alkaline diet.

The body tries to maintain a certain level of IGG antibodies in the blood. The body can filter out antibodies through the digestive track and the kidneys. An overly acidic diet is hard on the kidneys.  Celiac disease can damage the kidneys and kidney stones are associated with digestive problems. The mechanism for how the bodies remove IGG antibodies I think is effected by ph and diet. A vegiterian diet (with low fructose consumption) is healthy for the kidneys.  Uric acid kidney stones are the most common type of kidney stone.

I was just thinking this same thing - requesting repeat testing prior to giving up gluten. Makes sense. Thanks!

Since you're having a last hurrah with gluten, request another round of blood tests for celiac antibodies.  Make sure you're eating ten grams or more daily for those few weeks before your capsule endoscopy.  You probably weren't eating a sufficient amount of gluten needed to provoke sufficient antibody production.

Hello all I am taking some time out from work today to make my annual Christmas cake along the lines of a tried and tested English recipe which means a fruit cake, with marzipan  and icing.   As usual, I've left it too late - we're meant to bake these things some time  in advance to improve the flavour.    I never remember.  But it never seems to matter! I thought I'd share it in case any UK coeliacs still haven't made theirs and don't have a recipe, or any of my friends across the Pond want to try making one.  Do you make iced fruit cakes like this in the US for Christmas? - I have no idea! I adapt it slightly as instead of fondant icing I make Royal Icing which sets hard and you can create exciting snow scenes with it if you can find any tiny model houses, churches and trees to put on it!  (my Mum used to do this).   https://www.coeliac.org.uk/information-and-support/your-gluten-free-hub/home-of-gluten-free-recipes/1511804/ With thanks to the charity Coeliac Uk for this recipe. Welcome to the forum, @Art Maltman! Ask your physician to order serum antibody tests specifically designed to detect celiac disease. That's the place to start but you shouldn't be on a gluten free diet some weeks before the blood draw. You certainly have some symptoms that are characteristic of celiac disease and you have a first degree relative that has celiac disease. So, I think this would be an appropriate request to bring to your physician. Here is an article outlining the various serum antibody tests that can be ordered when checking for celiac disease:   The physician may not be open to ordering a full panel but push for at least these two: total IGA and tTG-IGA. By the way, absence of gut pain is very common in the celiac population. We call them "silent" celiacs as they have no or very minor symptoms. There are over 200 symptoms and spinoff health issues that have become associated with celiac disease and the range of symptoms and effects produced by the disease in different individuals various tremendously.
