Severe abdominal pains after exposure?

I have been gluten free for 2.5 years. I handled some dog treats this morning which were later found to have gluten in them (I tested with my Nima sensor after symptoms). I have had severe abdominal pains and cramps, sweats, and diarrhea to the point all that is coming out now is yellow clear liquid sorry tmi. My question is are these severe abdominal pains normal? I’ve never had pains this severe. Lower and middle quadrant cramping at times so bad I’ve considered going to the ER. Any info will be appreciated thanks

Yes, you can get gluten exposure transdermally and the symptoms and the severity you describe match what I experience when I get glutened orally. I do not react to casual gluten exposure transdermally but some celiacs do.

Did you handle them while eating? It sounds like you are in the super sensitive group, as most people with celiac disease would not get such a severe response unless they ingested gluten.

      The ulcers are prepyloric ulcers. Not sure if that makes any difference.

      I had what was termed "lesions," and normally ulcers are in the stomach, rather than the small intestines. I'm not sure why they would want you to have her continue to eat gluten, since she had a positive blood test, but as her doctor said, if she is uncomfortable and having symptoms why not have her go gluten-free at this point? If her symptoms improve, it would be another indicator that she has celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
