just got this in e-mail from my local support group... worth checking out!

Subject: Free Database Offer from Clan Thompson Smartlists

>>

>>April 1 - It's no joke! You can access our new, online Gluten Checker database for FREE this month.

>>

>>The Clan Thompson Gluten Checker makes it easy to check for suspect ingredients. Search our online database of over 87,000 products by entering the UPC code, the product name, or a description like "chocolate". (We'll be adding more items with time!)

>>

>>View an item for detailed info about suspect ingredients. Our Gluten Checker does not tell you which products are gluten free. Only the manufacturer can give you that information. However, we can flag suspect ingredients for you and give you detailed information about them.

>>

>>As a subscriber to one of our food and/or drug SmartLists, you may add the Gluten Checker to your package for just $10/yr.

>>To do so, just visit our coupon page here:

>>

>>Open Original Shared Link

>>

>>

>>and enter this coupon code: GCS12313535693

>>

>>Add the Gluten Checker to your package in April and receive an additional month on your subscription...that's 13 months for the price of 12.

someone please correct me if I am wrong, but aren't a lot of products on Clan Thompson of British origin or Canadian and won't be of value to those in USA?

I thought that was why Gluten Guard system was best for those in USA...

Guest nini

I don't know. I haven't used Clan Thompsons database before. I just received that in an e-mail from our support group leader, so I thought I'd share.

debmidge Rising Star

The reason I am asking is because I am on the "fence" on this - which one to select....

Rusla Enthusiast

I was under the understanding that Clan Thompson was America and therefore no good to Canadians.

debmidge Rising Star

hmmmmm, I wonder what/which is so.....is Clan USA or Brit or Canadian based? I would sure hate to purchase the system/service and get little use out of it.....Anyone else weigh in on this?

Rusla Enthusiast

It seems to be an American company that, now says they have a Canadian list also.

call your credit card company and see if a "hold" has been put on your account and the amount. Then you can ascertain if you did the wrong thing.

If you did, then when charge is first on your account, again call daily to see when the "hold" is a firm "charge" quickly get in touch with Clan T. to work it out with them. Maybe this will work.

The confusion may be because Clan Thompson has 2 versions of the SmartList-- 1 for Canada and 1 for the USA. Clan Thompson is a family-owned business based in Maine. ALL products in the USA version of their SmartList software are available in USA stores. Both the Canadian and the USA versions are clearly marked USA or Canada on the product pages. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding about Clan Thompson's SmartList software.

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
