I finally have the energy and time to tell the details about how things went in Calgary and instead of just replyin in my old post I thought I'd start a new one (I dont dont think anyones reading it anymore..)

SORRY IF ITS TOO LONG! :P

We got to Calgary 5:30am AB time(after leavin 6pm Sask time!).the coffee shop was already open, immediately got coffee. We made our way to hotel,I think about 8am AB time.Mom went to sleep,I didnt.I was runnin on just a couple hrs of sleep.there was no net connection, not in any way possible.I convinced mom to wake up 11 AB time &we made our way to Market Mall.

I found so many cool things there to buy&spent too much, yet at the same time,SO SAVED.u'd be surprised how quickly that 5% less tax adds up!I got some clothes@Old Navy(on sale),a blouse/tank top for underneath(that'll be my outfit for Uncle Kevin's weddin)&a celiac disease/random stuff.got back to hotel 5:30pm,just in time to start my crap(&watch Habs vs Leafs game ha). After 20 mins of startin to drink the laxative it started workin

They say ur supposed to drink all 4L of it(it tasted like salty pop! ),but I got thru 2/3 of it &then threw up nastily, never had that bad in my life.I managed to stomach 1 more glass&once everythin was liquid,I said screw it,&went to bed.Plus from eatin all the gluten I cleaned myself out enough!!

We got up 7am our time,&the cab came for us 6:30 AB time.got upstairs to the unit &got told to go down/register since I'm out of province.I was the 1st person scheduled!

1 nurse came to put in I.V.(WHICH I HATED)&they were all so nice. They asked if my wait time for Calgary was long,I explained the time in Sask.&they couldnt believe it!the another nurse took me to the room&kept me occupied while I waited for the doc,he was late about 1/2 hr.They all asked if I finished all the laxative&I said most of it,I was so worried it wouldnt be enough but I guess it was.

They gave me oxygen to breathe thru, which was nice.

SO, they gave me a bunch of sedation...not even a frickin min b4 they started the scopes.I was VERY awake. Not sure what he did for the endoscopy, but it wasnt all that bad!I had to bite on some plastic thing to keep my mouth open, barely even gagged.then the colonoscopy...O-M-G.That was the absolutely WORST THING I have EVER gone thru.THE PAIN.Everytime he moved thru my stomach,I felt it&when he reached my right side,I was nearly screamin.

They wrote on my sheet I was upset/anxious,how the heck could I NOT be????I got a prescription for a bunch of things.OH the specialist will call me in about 10 days w/results&send them to the office in Canora.this is so I dont gotta come back for results.I NEVER have had anyone call me.I'm gonna call monday&give my cell # so he can call me on there.

anyways,I fell asleep AFTER everythin was done.1 nurse came to see how I was doin/another came to take out my I.V.&asked if I wanted a sandwich.I said"I cant eat a sandwich"she asked if I was gluten-free I said yes,&she was like"we have gluten-free sandwiches here!theres lots of ppl who have it".She warmed it up &OMG 1 of the best gluten-free sandwiches I ever tasted, said they even bake it right in the hospital.the bread was almost black, and it was SO soft.it was just a cheese sandwich but SO WORTH IT.

We went back to the hotel&I fell asleep again, mom said she couldnt wake me up!The hotel was nice enough to give us an extra hr to rest.My cousin picked us up/took us to the mall,we had some dinner there then he had to go back to work.Soon after Randi came so we just bummed around the mall, then we got a cab kinda early to the bus depot.

I bought myself a pillow so that I could sleep on it/sit on my parka. My throat was raw for 2 days, and my ass finally stopped killin me yesterday(its still kinda sensative)

We finally got back home 1:30pm Wednedsay(after leavin Calgary 7:45pm).

TOLD U it was long

...comment if u want!!

Lisa,,,

Oh, my,,what a trip for so many tests. I hope the mall shopping made some of the trip pleasant.

I guess I should count my blessing I live only 20 minutes away from my gastro and hospital.

I threw up to with that gaggy stuff we had to drink.

Glad it's all over for you. Sherylj

I'm sorry your tests were such a pain in the @$$.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

I hope they have some new answers for you. That's so great that you don't have to go all the way back for the results.

Lisa, I agree about the colonoscopy being terribly painful. I had one done (no sedative or anything) a few years before I had kids and I think it was worse than natural childbirth - no kidding. I'd rather have another baby than have another one of those scopes! Glad you survived though.

There is a 10 year old post in this forum on Edy's and Dreyer's ice cream. The information is somewhat outdated and the thread is closed to further comment, so here is a new one. Edy's And Dreyer's Grand Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - 1.5 Quart is labeled "Gluten Free". This is a different answer than years gone by. I don't know the answer for any other flavor at this moment. On 1 May, 2026, Edy's website says: "As a general rule, the gluten in Edy's and Dreyer's® frozen dessert products is present only in the added bakery products, such as cookies, cake or brownies. We always label the eight major food allergens on our package by their common name. We recommend to always check the label for the most current information before purchasing and/or consuming a product. The exception to this rule is our Slow Churned French Silk frozen dairy dessert, which contains gluten in the natural flavors." https://www.icecream.com/us/en/brands/edys-and-dreyers/faq It seems that Edy's and Dreyer's are more celiac-friendly than they were 10 years ago. Once I found enough information to make today's buying decision, I stopped researching.

probably not your situation @Mimiof2, but allow me to add one more to @trents list of celiac-mimics: "olmesartan-induced sprue-like enteropathy"

My dad had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.  Fortunately, it was discovered during an exam.  The doctor could feel my dad's heart beating in his stomach/abdomen.  The aneurysm burst when the doctor first touched it in surgery.  Since he was already hooked up to the bypass machine, my dad survived ten more years.  Close call! Triple A's can press on the nerves in the spinal cord causing leg pain.  I'm wondering if bowing the head might have increased the pressure on an aneurysm and then the nerves.   https://gulfcoastsurgeons.com/understanding-abdominal-aortic-aneurysm-symptoms-and-causes/ Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Presenting as a Claudication https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4040638/

You have an odd story there. To me, the mechanical trigger suggests a mechanical problem and lower leg pain is a classic sciatica symptom. The fact that the clear mechanical linkage is no longer there does not take away from the fact that it was - maybe something shifted and the simple alignment is no longer there. There's also a good chance I am wrong and it's something else entirely. @Scott Adams's mention of shingles is interesting. It seems possible but unlikely to me, but who knows. However, I am writing here to reinforce the idea of getting the shingles vaccine. Ask anyone who has ever had shingles and they will bend your ear telling you how bad it is. I watched my wife go through it and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Even if you had the chicken pox vaccine, you really want to get the shingles vaccine.

Oddly this effect has gone now, just happened yesterday evening, the nerve pain is now back to its usual "unpredictable" random self again - but that was the only time I ever had some mechanical trigger for it, don't know why! There's no (or wasn't) actual pain in my neck - it was inside the leg, but when I looked down, now though, the leg pain just comes and goes randomly as before again.
