Ferrous Gluconate

Recommended Posts

Just wondering...recently diagnosed with iron deficiency, anemia that is, and doc told me to take this. wondering how many here have taken it (probably a lot considering Celiac Disease causes iron problems) and I'm wondering if there were any side effects such as stomach sickness.

Thanks, Jenn

I took ferrous gluconate in 2000 after my appendectomy - was very anemic after surgery (complications and I lost a significant amount of blood). This was what my surgeon recommended. I remember being constipated, but taking a little milk of magnesia (gluten free, I now know!) with the iron helps a little.

Of course, this was all before my intestines were so delicate. But I do remember my surgeon telling me that this was a more easily-absorbed form of iron....
