Hello *waves*

I'm 15, and gluten free for six years, but only JUST found this forum!

I homeschool in Massachusetts, at least, that's where I live right now. We move, a lot, due to my dad's job. I tried public high school, but just wasn't for me. Why is it people need to tease you about your lunch that you bring from hoe every day, and that fact that you have vitiligo and thus your skin isn't all one color, that fact you move a lot on things like that? People can be so cruel!

I love to cook, which is very helpful! My mo is celiac as well as me. I invent recipes ALL the time! I.E. tonight i made fried chicken with ramono and garlic in it, YUM! It doesn't have that 'beany' taste!

Uh, I have two dogs and two cats, and, as of right now, 16 fish! I LOVE horses, I ride English style, and love jumping.

Can't think of anything else... uh...

Oh!

Fav movies: Butterfly Effect, A Beautiful Mind, Monty Python movies, National Treasure

Fav bands: Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea, Weird Al, Jack's Mannequin

Fav food: gluten-free pasta, french fries, gluten-free chicken noodle/rice soup

And I'm a TOTAL geek :)

~Tori

Hey Tori

Glad that you FINALLY found us!

We have lots of teens here and they love to chat. I'm glad that you love to cook and here on this site we have some really drop dead recipes. You have alot to explore here.

My daughters rode English also. They got involved in combined training and loved it. Girls and horses are special.

Well, welcome to us and glad to meet cha.

Stargate-geek Newbie

LOL, Not sure I want the recipes if they're going to make me 'drop dead' :D

Thanks for the warm welcome!

^^ I just noticed this, but you have vitaligo? I have a little bit too... On my chin. Or Jaw. Or somthing like that. (I hate science) I don't like to cook a lot, but... well, the microwave is one of the greatest inventions of mankind. End of story. And HOMESCHOOLERS ROCK!

Lollipop Newbie

Wow! We have lots in common.

1.) I have a dog and cats (5 not 2 though)

2.) The Butterfly Effect is one of my fave movies, along with National Treasure and some of the Montie Python Movies

3.) BNL is like my favorite band, + weird al is awesome (I liked him even before white and nerdy came out)

4.) My favorite foods are exactly the same

5.) I also LOVE horses, and ride English, though I haven't ridden in a while due to my health. I used to be in Pony Club (I dont know if you've heard of it but they do jumping and English and lots more) I have 4 horses, but one of them is at a therapeutic riding center.

6.) I am a total geek, but I like Dr.Who better than stargate

Feel free to pm me

Ohh... I wish I could ride horses... :'( I CAN, but western is more fun. I have a hard time staying on the horse when I ride english. O.o

haha, yay for gluten free riders! I also ride english hunter jumper..not jumping at the moment, training a 7 y/o off the track, former polo pony TB.

I'm more of a music geek (orch dork! and choir) than a scifi geek though :-)

Just an old lady here but when I was in high school (seems like eons ago) I got picked on because I brought my own lunch as well..... I brought it because it was cheaper then buying one from the school and my family was poor.

Anyone can be cruel at times even the perfect people.... remember the expirience... when you see some poor soul on the street and have the opportunity to either make fun of them or help them... maybe you cant afford a quarter to help them buy something to eat but maybe you have a kind word instead, those cost nothing.

Weird Al still sings?!?!?!?! B) dang wouldn't have figured he was still around let alone making parodies still, lol

BNL yuppers like them (even if I am an old lady, lol)

3 dogs 2 cats (but just bought 9 acres so plan on expanding that number, lol and it will include a horse or 2 I am sure, lol)

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but not new to celiac disease as well. I was dianosed @ 6 and I am now 16. Hey, I'm homeschooled too! I was all of kindergarden, 1/2 of the first grade, then my family moved and found a really great Christian school, went there the second 1/2 of first grade and all of second grade, then from third grade on I have been homeschooled. I LOVE to cook as well. I must say that Rachel Ray is my favorite movie star  My mom and I are gluten free, but my dad and brother aren't, so I cook both ways but lean more toward the gluten-free. I think the laugh is on those kids who were making fun of you because you brought your lunch, caf. food is really bad! Who wants mystery meat when you can eat homemade everyday?

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
