Restaurant Gluten Free & Vegan

Recommended Posts

This is my first post so please be kind. I am recently self diagnosed (my mom and my uncle both have Celiac) but am very lucky because I have learned allot from my mother on what to eat and what not to eat. I decided to make it my "mission" to try and educate people on the disease, at least as much as I could.

So, last week we had tickets to Ford Field in Detroit to the NCAA Midwest Regionals. I knew it was going to be challenging to find anything to eat at the Stadium, second only to "carnie" food, so I emailed the customer service email address at Ford Field about information on what, if any, I could eat. A week or so passed and I assumed that I would not recieve a response, knowing in my head that most stadium's don't offer gluten-free items at the snack stands. Well to my surprise the Executive Chef at the Stadium emailed me. I was astonished. His knowledge was amazing, he looked up information on the websites of Pepsi, Coke, and celiac.com.

He told me he would make anything I wanted or he would provide me with some delicious meals from Moo Moo's Organic Bistro in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. (http://www.moomoosbistro.com/site.html). I had the Poblano Chic Patties with poblano peppers and other delish tasties. (I am not a chic pea lover but it was great!!) I was overwhelmed and amazed at my experience I almost cried. The chef spoke of his increasing requests for gluten-free foods and that he appreciated my email, all I had to do was ask. So I ran with it and called the bride-to-be of a wedding we will be attending and her caterer said he would make me anything I wanted, that he would be happy to accomodate my needs.

I just wanted to share the good news as we so often hear only bad news about our experiences and the disease. And also share the name of the restaurant that prepared the yummy meals (they ship out of Michigan too). Regards to you all!

That's great!! I'm so glad you had such a positive experience. It seems like if you don't speak up and ask if there's anything available to eat, you'll never know. I'm from St. Clair Shores, and will be heading that way for a wedding this summer. After checking out Moo Moo's site, I'll be stopping in for sure! Thanks for the tip!
