Lame Advertisement? What Gives...

Ok, I posted in the recipe section something about some seeds that my FIL gave me. Honest to God I was not trying to hock a brand name over the internet. I honestly would have to look up the brand name on the label to even see who makes it, and in my post I specifically said that I looked them up online and thought they were outrageously expensive. They did work great in my baked goods and I wanted to share that, because they are a healthier alternative to xanthan gum. So suddenly my post turns up with the name of the seed replaced with "Lame Advertisement"!?!? I am NOT trying to advertise! In no way, shape or form was I trying to advertise. I certainly do NOT sell the stuff, I was just going to go out and try and find how to buy it cheaply in bulk. What gives? It's a SEED for pete's sake, as far as I know it's not a brand name and it's a natural product, so I would imagine that it's not exclusive to any one brand! I totally resent the implication. I have been visiting these boards for years, I took a 6 month break and had to come back under a different name due to changing my email address. jI wish I didn't have to say it but this isn't feeling like a very friendly place anymore! I was honestly just trying to help. Now I feel like I've been branded as some kind of expensive seed hocking troll! I feel terribly sad about it but I am seriously considering leaving this site. I was only suggesting a type of seed that helps in baking...I don't see anyone flagged for talking about flax seed, or even for suggesting different brands of cake mix or other products! It feels mean spirited, and I honestly have nothing but pure intentions.

I sent you a PM explaining what this is about. Please don't take it as being about you because it is not. My email address is in the PM. Send me a note if you want to know more. The substitution is automated and applies to every member, including the moderators.

I am NOT trying to advertise! In no way, shape or form was I trying to advertise.

But apparently at some point in the past they spammed the board often enough with advertisements of their own that the mere mention of their name triggers the "Lame Advertisement" phrase. It was Scott's way of teaching them that continued spamming was futile.

From what I understand, you can circumvent the problem by putting dots or dashes between the letters.

EDIT: Do you preview your posts before actually submitting them? I am guessing it would show up in the preview and then you could tweak the spelling so people would still know what product you found useful without triggering the "Lame Advertisement" filter. Perhaps Peter or another moderator will pop back in and let people know?

It is always a good idea to preview your posts. I don't always do that, but if I don't, I will read through the post once more, and edit any mistakes I find. I have triggered the 'lame advertisement' before, and just used another way that didn't trigger the automatic substitution.

Just remember, you can only edit your posts for a couple of hours after posting now.

You may want to PM Scott (admin) to let him know you're unhappy, and ask him to please edit your post for you in such a way that it says what you wanted to say.

I would be interested in knowing what the seed was!

I understand the concept and intent of the auto-substituting but when it hits someone unintentionally it seems mean spirited. Does that substituted text have to say "lame advertisment"? I've seen other boards just replace the offending word with ####. It has the same effect (blocking unwanted text) without making false accusations.

Tim...that's exactly what I'm thinking! You can achieve the same thing without being offensive and mean. It's not OK to shame someone who is not intentionally spamming on your site! How hard would it be to just put symbols or "Product Name Not Allowed Due To Potential Spam" or something? I understand being mad at spammers, but it's short sighted and a little immature to deal with it in a way that makes innocent posters look like spammers!

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
