I was wondering if any one knew how important it is to use gluten free make up, lotion, and tooth paste? Maybe that culd be the reason for all the nausea but I dont think so. And if it is important can any one tell me what make up and lotions are gluten free. I currently use mostly bobbi brown. Thanks for your replys

This is a big subject around here, and I am not knowledable enough to address it. However, I am sensitive to items touching my skin. I changed shampoo's, no sodium laurel sulfate, Trader Joe's is cheap and good. I use gluten-free make-up Everyday Minerals, see thread on this site, as well as Great Lash Mascara and Maybelline eye liner.

What I would do is call Bobbi Brown and see if her make-up line is gluten-free. It took me a while after going gluten-free to realize I had a sensitivity to some products.

From my experience, gluten free products are a must. When I first got my diagnosis, I went through a stage that was a combination of denial and overwhelmed over the importance of trace gluten. For a month, I continued to use my tried and true expensive facial lotion. I continued to feel bad until I stopped using it. Then I relapsed when I pulled out eyeshadow and blush with oat in them for a special occassion.

My suggestion is to find Dove, Suave or other Unilever brand products without WRBO for temporary use while you research other presumably more expensive products you want to switch to. Unilever will list WRBO clearly on the back in the ingredients, so they are a "safe" brand. The same is true for Cover Girl.

Products I use:

Burts Bees-Not all are safe, but they have a gluten free list

Everydayminerals.com-gluten-free mineral makeup for great prices. Fun Fun fun

Dove is my go to brand for products when I decide to add back a product.

Crest-most or all of their toothpaste is gluten free. Definately the more basic ones. I use Crest-multicare whitening and it is gluten-free.

Crest-dental floss-Glide plain is gluten-free

Remember to make sure everything is gluten-free when you go to the dentist. Many of us get sick after visiting the dentist.

If you use more upscale brands, you will want to check out:

Chanel lipsticks and lip glosses

All Nars. Everything, including nail polish

Most Smashbox (not mascara)

Lots of Guerlain products (see posted list here-- search) including mascara

T. Leclerc products

100% pure cosmetics (not mascara)

Some Clinique and Lancome (search here)

For toiletries:

Caudalie (three things are not okay-- shampoo and two creams)

Korres (manty things safe)

Lush (many things are okay-- read ingredients)

Phyto products (many are okay-- read)

Rene Furterer (some products-- read)

Sundari- read.

ECO Nvey (no gluten ingredients)

For me it is very important that everything be gluten-free, but not everybody has DH and not everybody is so sensitive.

Good luck.

Another culprit is Vitamin E, or tocopherol acetate. It can be made from wheat or soy, so you should know the source. Cetaphil only guarantees that its gentle face wash is gluten-free. All vaseline products except the lotion in the yellow bottles(oats) are gluten-free and do not contain vitamin E. The new line of Almay products seem to be OK, the ingredients do not contain WRBO or tocopherols.

I second on the Everyday Minerals, they'll send you free samples! (you pay shipping, about $4)

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
