Symptoms Of Being Glutened

O.K. - I have been gluten-free/DF for almost 3 weeks. Those three weeks were AMAZING - no pain, no fatigue, no brain fog, normal stomach issues, etc. I saw my PCP and she wants me to go off the gluten-free diet for 6 weeks to get an accurate diagnosis. I went off the diet (I hate using that word, its a lifestyle not a diet) three days ago, and I feel like crap. Here are some symptoms I am having - I would appreciate it if anyone can calm my fears and tell me this is normal.

-Major fatigue

-Headache

-Minor nausea

-Anxiety

-Diarrhea

-Gas

-Low Back Pain

-Low grade fever (99.5)

I don't think I can physically handle eating like this for the next 6 weeks. If anyone can help calm me, I would appreciate it -

Maybe she can give you something? I feel just awful for ya.....can you just eat a tiny bit of gluten? Wouldn't work for me, I'd still be sick, but geez...can she give you something to help some of the symptoms? You should ask her, six weeks, that's a long time.

Oh, I do feel for you. Having to go back on gluten after being gluten free is awful!!! I wonder if the doctors realize just what they are asking??

And how come they only want to test you AFTER you are gluten free, not before when you are complaining?? Okay, rhetorical question, sorry. But it makes me so mad. If the diagnosis is important to you, I guess you have to do it. But there's no way that I would do it. :P And no, I don't know of any way of making it feel better, to poison yourself.

These are definately signs and it is not good the doctor is having you do this. I'm not sure why or what they are trying to prove. I wouldn't eat gluten ever again if a doctor asked me too. You could do other testing. Gffriend

Let you doctor know how sick you are with eating gluten. The best test is what you have just done, gone back to eating gluten with nasty results. Remember that lab tests and biopsy results can still be negative even if you are Celiac or intolerant. You do not need to suffer.

I did reach out to two major hospitals and currently waiting on approval for one of them in Infectious Diseases to call me.       Dang. I had a moment of hope that I could change my BP med and get off the gluten-free diet. Nope. More seriously, I hadn't seen this articles about this phenomenon before. This is one of the possible answers for people who post here about having celiac symptoms (including biopsy) but normal IgA levels, especially if they are saying that diet isn't helping...

      oops. I didn't see that before posting or I would have at least referenced it. The two recipes are pretty similar, but I think the newer one is a little simpler/faster. Next time though I will search more before posting.

Neither did surgeon)in 2006 and there was a leak 2023 during the same time I was dealing with covid, digestive issues, eyes and skin.Considering I " should  be fine" not consuming gluten/wheat, taking vitamins for sibo and STILL feeling terrible.It has to be parasites. I also take individual eye drops prescribed, could there be an issue there? Anyways my pcp thinks I need therapy because again they don't acknowledge my digestive issues because in my records it shows im fine, hintz the reason I had to go back to bay area hospital:(  I thought skin issues maybe sibo related but I feel and have seen and seriously trying not to think about it because it's disgusting.

      This may not be the cause, it's pure speculation on my part, but for 10-15 years I had a tingling/burning/electric-like shock sensation that emanated from my right-neck upward across the right-side of my head. I was worried about having a stroke or something so got all sorts of tests done, including an MRI, which found not much--only a minor degenerative disk in my neck--which I just accepted as the cause. Fast forward to when I was ~45 and I was hit with shingles in the EXACT place that this sensation would travel--I ended up with a very painful case of shingles that felt like the right-side of my head had been set on fire, and had the blistering and pain that ran along the exact path of nerves that I had felt this sensation travel along for the prior 10-15 years. For me, that time period was a shingles pre-cursor, and all those feelings were likely inflammation in my nerves. Needless to say I've not had this since getting my shingles vaccines at 50.  Your situation could very well be something else, but I just wanted to mention this possibility because your symptoms sound similar to what I experienced. I'm not sure if you're in the age range to get a shingles vaccine, but it may be something to consider.
