Dh Or Psoriasis

I have a new rash :( It is on my hand and between the fingers and over the knuckles. It looks like pics of psoriasis but I wonder if it could be DH ? Previously before my gluten-free diet I had a rash like DH on my legs... red spots/blisters, circular, symmetrical. That rash went away with the gluten-free diet.

Now this new rash has started and is spreading rather rapidly. Skin is thickened and has white scales that flake and bleed. Itch of course... Is this a new disease for me or DH again ? :( This week I have been feeding my horses for the first time in months ( had a knee injury so hubbie has been feeding them). I never had contact allergies to hay before and I always wash hands immediately after.. Could I be more sensitive now to hay as I have not touched it in months? Has anyone had a DH rash look like psoriasis?

No DH for me (hubby though) but I have psoriasis and that definitely gets that scaly thing that eventually peels (flakes) off. Not as itchy as DH apparently. I would try wearing gloves and see if that helps :) Might help define the problem, whether contact or internal ingestion problems.

I see you had yours dxed in 2004. How did the dr dx it? What treatment is there for it. Can stress make a difference? I had some stress last week and the rash started and grew and grew. Now today - less stress - and improving slightly. Lots of thick skin/silvery scales .... I will try the gloves but now hubbie has reminded me the rash started before I started the hay feeds.

Sounds to me like possible psoriasis but not much like DH. I've had both -- my DH is long gone after going gluten-free; my psoriasis started after my celiac disease diagnosis. Psoriasis most definitely is not nearly as itchy as DH. I'm pretty certain that most doctors, and definitely dermatologists, can diagnose psoriasis just by looking.

Stress can aggravate any autoimmune disease.

Yes, stress can definitely worsen psoriasis. Thick silvery scales (and you're not a fish  ) definitely sound like psoriasis. Most doctors diagnose it just by appearannce. Mine was only ever treated with topical steroids like Daivonex, Dermol (here its something like clobetasyl propionate), Elocon. Then, of course, some of the arthritis drugs were supposed to make it better, but Plaquenil made it worse and nothing ever really worked until I started the Humira shots, But I think I am one of the unlucky ones and for most it clears after a year or two on the diet. Good luck with yours :)

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
