I had a fistula & a hemmorrhoid surgically corrected last year. also had a fissure which got a little better but now its bothering me again. i get hard stools periodically despite all my dietary changes and taking magnesium daily and now i think im getting another hemmorhoid...this is a viscious cycle & i am worried this will plague me for the rest of my life.

my doc wants to correct the fissure but im really worried about incontinence and the possibility that it might even return since i still cant get to the bottom of my bowel issues.

has anyone had similar experiences? would appreciate some feedback

Russ

My brother had fistulas, but he had Crohn's.

i have horrific hemmohroids- they definitely qualify for surgery.. i had SLOW motility for 6 or 7 years- i blamed my gluten issues- but my motility never really improved untill i got on the right thyroid meds. i had no idea that i had been sitting FOREVER at a time because of an undiagnosed thyroid- and now there so bad i sometime cry and fear im not gonna be able to have kids, or that my life is over...

since i dont sit very long, and since i found some great homeopathic creams & tablets- they're much more manageable- but yesterday during a long drive- they were throbbing so bad i was sobbing and trying to find a good position to sit in :(

i dont have any fissures or fistulas, thank God, my hemms are quite enough as it is. i hope you find solutions and relief!

I had a fistula that healed of its own accord :o

Yep, with no intervention from anyone :o

Hi Mushroom, It's good to hear someone had a fistula that healed without surgery! How long did it take? Did it drain for a while first? I have one that has been draining for 4 months. And now I just got diagnosed with Celiac, so I want to wait to see if my new diet will help heal me. The low surgery success rate really bother me. The surgeon tells me if it doesn

My fistula, obviously, was not very bad (or particularly bothersome) fortunately. I just suddenly became aware one day that I no longer had it and doc confirmed it was gone. So I have no advices for you - I didn't "do" anything to fix it.

Well thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it.

I developed an external hemi about 15 years ago. My bowels were always slow (although I didn't realize they weres slow because they had always been that way... if that makes sense) but that was helped when my hypothyroidism was treated. I've been fairly lucky in that it doesn't seem to get inflamed very often.

Good luck.

Hi Russ,

I have had fissures, hemorrhoids, and once, a fistula. The fistula was before I went gluten-free. The fissures are better now that I am not drinking milk or consuming too many dairy products. Hemorrhoids are gone too.

Like the other person here, my fistula went away on its own. The first doctor was going to do a closure procedure in the patient room on the day he found it. The thought of it made me woozy though and I left before he could do it. I went to another doctor several months later and he didn't see anything. In retrospect, I am glad that I didn't do it because I would be afraid the closure may have left a pocket/abscess. I wonder how often fissures close up...

At this point, I am being conservative about the idea of any surgery. Sometimes 'surgeons do surgery' ... These superinfections that in surgery suites are also no laughing matter. It is scary how quickly someone could become septic from getting an infection in that area because it is so vascular.

This isn't meant to be advice, just my anecdotal account.

Emily

Bread has about 8 g of protein per 100 g, so a piece of bread weighing 125 mg contains 10 mg of gluten. Bread has a density of about 0.25 g/ml, so 0.5 ml of bread contains 10 mg of gluten - i.e. a bread ball 1 cm in diameter. I think it would be unlikely to ingest this much from throwing bread out for the birds.

Sciatica came to mind for me as well. You might want to get some imaging done on your C-spine.

Maybe this is sciatica? When mine acts up a little, I switch my wallet from one back pocket to the other. this isn't a substitute for more serious medical help, but for me it's a bandaid.

OK so I just learned something completely new about this for the first time in years, that is REALLY WEIRD. One of my nerves that likes to "burn" or whatever is doing it every time I bow my head! I mean it is completely repeatable. Literally every time. Once my head goes beyond a certain angle *boom*. Nerve goes mental (lower right leg pain). What the hell. I've never seen a direct trigger such as this before that I can recall. The pain was the usual type I get from this problem - I suspect somehow the head movement was interrupting descending inhibition processes, causing the pain to leak through somehow.

I've only made this a couple of times but it's really easy and I love the flavor. If you can, use all of the ingredients to get the full palette of flavors. I use fresh or canned tomatoes and I don't worry about peeling them. If you don't have harissa, there are replacement recipes online. If you don't have the greens, I suggest adding a little chopped baby spinach or celery leaves to add a dash of green color to this red dish. Best eaten in first couple days because flavor tends to fade. Leftovers are still good, but not as vibrant. Ingredients 2 medium eggplants, partially peeled and cut into cubes (original recipe says 1 in, but I prefer 1/2 to 3/4 in) 2 tomatoes, peeled and crushed 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or minced 1 tablespoon fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons spicy harissa (I use Mina brand) 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon paprika ½ teaspoon black pepper 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional) Salt to taste Preparation     • Heat olive oil in skillet or pot over medium heat. Add all ingredients and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover and cook on low heat for an additional 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.       • Serve warm or cold as a side or with bread for dipping. Enjoy! Original recipe is here, if you want to see photos: mina.co/blogs/recipes/zaalouk-moroccan-eggplant-salad
