I'm A Newbie

zebra Newbie

Hi- I'm new here. I've suspected for quite some time that I've had 'something' wrong. I finally added 2+2=4 and figured out gluten. I've been sensitive to dairy for years and avoid that, now its gluten too.

I've lost over 50 lbs since the start of summer. It seems so much is limited now because of dairy AND gluten. I'm waiting to see a gastro in a couple weeks and I know he is going to order more tests so I need to keep the gluten going but I can NOT spend hours a day in the bathroom (both ends). The vomiting is new since august/september.

I think I'm still in denial mode. Add in the fact that I won't eat red meat and my options are so limited .. or so it feels.

Anyone wanna have a 'welcome pity party' :)

Have you told them how sick you have been. My husband got down to 110 lbs ( he was only 145 to start with) and really I don't think he would have made it another week. They could tell by speaking with him on the phone how week he had become and the doctor agreed to let him begin the diet. The damage to his intestine was still quite obvious. Maybe you could call the GI and speak with the nurse about it. Tell her the situation... Maybe she could speak with dr and get you in sooner or he could allow you to start the diet.

My husband had same issues as you. Bathroom 50 times a day. Literally and throwing up. Quite a scary situation to live through. He could eat nothing. I was slowly watching him starve to death. He now weighs 185 lbs!!! :). Never been that heavy ever. Dr said his intestines were one of the worst he has ever seen. Completely smooth. Good luck!!

I've told them. Part of the issue I've spent years running around with my PCP, who is convinced everything would be 'fixed' if I wasn't anemic. . I finally got a referral to the gastro when the PCP passed me off to a PA in the office. While I have the weight to lose, and I welcome weight loss, I can not spend hours a day in the bathroom.

The gastro office was wonderful. They totally understand, but due to other issues I refuse to see a female dr so the first available male appt was 12/3. People tend to write me off as nuts since I have some psych issues but those issues are being managed and honestly, I can not make up the puking, the bathroom issues, the sweats, the dizzy, the stomach pain.

I hope you get good news regarding your GI visit. Good news meaning that you find an answser to your distress. I would certainly recommend a full biopsy with 8-10 samples, should you have an endoscopy exam.

The following are the celiac specific blood tests:

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA

Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG

Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA

Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA

Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG

Total Serum IgA

If Celiac is your issue, no pity party is needed. It's an adjustment to your diet and shopping and good health is right around the corner. :D

Good luck and let us know how it goes! Hopefully you can get some quick relief. My son's doctor ( ped. Gastro) said most pcps wants to beleice everyone has celiac or no one at all....guess you got the second!

My appointment can not come soon enough. I've been compiling a list of symptoms and once I get that man cornered in the office.... He may never get to leave.

Sciatica came to mind for me as well. You might want to get some imaging done on your C-spine.

Maybe this is sciatica? When mine acts up a little, I switch my wallet from one back pocket to the other. this isn't a substitute for more serious medical help, but for me it's a bandaid.

OK so I just learned something completely new about this for the first time in years, that is REALLY WEIRD. One of my nerves that likes to "burn" or whatever is doing it every time I bow my head! I mean it is completely repeatable. Literally every time. Once my head goes beyond a certain angle *boom*. Nerve goes mental (lower right leg pain). What the hell. I've never seen a direct trigger such as this before that I can recall. The pain was the usual type I get from this problem - I suspect somehow the head movement was interrupting descending inhibition processes, causing the pain to leak through somehow.

I've only made this a couple of times but it's really easy and I love the flavor. If you can, use all of the ingredients to get the full palette of flavors. I use fresh or canned tomatoes and I don't worry about peeling them. If you don't have harissa, there are replacement recipes online. If you don't have the greens, I suggest adding a little chopped baby spinach or celery leaves to add a dash of green color to this red dish. Best eaten in first couple days because flavor tends to fade. Leftovers are still good, but not as vibrant. Ingredients 2 medium eggplants, partially peeled and cut into cubes (original recipe says 1 in, but I prefer 1/2 to 3/4 in) 2 tomatoes, peeled and crushed 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or minced 1 tablespoon fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons spicy harissa (I use Mina brand) 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon paprika ½ teaspoon black pepper 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional) Salt to taste Preparation     • Heat olive oil in skillet or pot over medium heat. Add all ingredients and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover and cook on low heat for an additional 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.       • Serve warm or cold as a side or with bread for dipping. Enjoy! Original recipe is here, if you want to see photos: mina.co/blogs/recipes/zaalouk-moroccan-eggplant-salad

I checked consumer labs that I'm a member of they independently check products for safely and claims the wolfs was rated great and bobs redmill buckwheat cereal. Ultra low gotten no dangerous levels of arsenic heavy metals, mold, yeast etc. plus they mention to refrigerate. I wonder if the raw buckwheat they rinse bc it's not toasted like kasha. Toasted removes the grassy taste I have to try the one you mentioned. I also bought Qia which is a quinoa mixed got great reviews.
