  1. Thank you! I made her scones w/o chocolate chips, and served them with laban and blueberry preserve, and Italian hot chocolate (read: bitter-sweet hot pudding). They were so good that my non-gluten-free friend asked for some to bring home. Score!!!
  2. Was he looking for a date or for an accountant??? I like the missed connections section. Sounds like a very rude British comedy (not that there's anything wrong with that from time to time).
  3. A Britain-educated close friend, lover of teas and high tea, is coming for a visit, and I'd like to offer something to go with my tea or hot chocolate. Has anyone here tested any good recipes for biscuits - scones, but also digestive-type cookies! - using coconut flour? I cannot eat almonds or tapioca, so those starches are out - I suppose I could...
  4. Thank you Loey, that's amazing! Vydor - that story is fantastic, and now I finally have a morally upright justification for my caffeine addiction. YAY! I would also add "coffee" to the survival grocery list So... one of my hobbies is upsetting social expectations on dating websites (it started off as a joke, but I'm often considering making this...
  5. After quite some time of elimination diet and accidents/experiments, I have started noticing a strange pattern in my relationship with dairy. Premise: I could not tolerate milk at all as a baby and was brought up on formula. I apparently grew out of it and always enjoyed my small latte in the morning and a yogurt during the day for almost three decades. I...
  6. ^ That's me, too. After much pain I have figured out that my limit is 3 Brazil nuts in a day, no more than 5 days a week. Cashews have lower tolerance levels for me. Pistachios are a bit better, but I stick to the Brazil nuts because at least I'm getting some selenium on the days I don't eat fish.
  7. YAY CM! By the way, I felt enormously better on that kind of diet. I can tolerate most dairy (not all, which is weird) fine, but I need to limit nuts to 1/4 cup and not every day, because my tummy is not happy with more than that.
  8. Thank you Loey - and I am sorry you got CC'd. My body is in alert-mode: I think what triggered the puffy eyes was a Neutrogena wash, because soon after gaining sight again I realized that my face was burnt red and sand-paper rough. It b****y hurts. To even have facial expressions. I also have a bright, boil like strip on my wrist, where I carry my watch....
  9. That's really sweet, Loey Second day in a row I wake up with eyes semi-closed by an allergic reaction. WHAT on earth is causing this? The only new thing I ate these nights was coconut butter, but I am usually ok with coconut in any form? I am so, so tired of this. As soon as I think I mastered one allergy, something new comes up. This sucks big time...
  10. Great news! That was one of the factors that made me want to try the gluten-free diet. I have all antibodies through the roof, but my symptoms are mostly hyperthyroidism-like (I was in menopause for 19 months and I'm barely 30!). I have had this for a couple of years, on paper, but I think I've always been a higher-level hormones functioning type: ever...
  11. Send Your Love - Sting
  12. Surely not for me: I am one of those rare people that seem to react to vodka. Oh well... *facepalm* - this MUST be a troll. Otherwise, we must be a miraculous population, thriving without an essential nutrient. Oh, snap! In science, they are called "essential" nutrients, not "vital," aren't they?
  13. Ha! That's awesome! I can sort of picture lots of dark spots flaking off like bits of snow...
  14. I am not sure if non-teens are allowed to post here - if not, I ask the mods to delete this. But if we are, then here's my two cents. One of my Ex-s was celiac. Super-sensitive celiac, and lactose intolerant. I was not gluten intolerant at the time. And you know what - it wasn't a problem at all. I got myself informed, he picked the places where we could...
  15. Any of the "best men" of this forum still single? Speaking of which - one of my smartest freshmen proposed, was accepted, and is now getting married: darn them kids, they always make me feel warm and fuzzy! Feeling old in the age of Facebook.
  16. I thought I'd give a shot at creating a positivity-thread, focusing on unexpected benefits of adopting the gluten-free diet. In my case, I got longer lashes. I have to keep my eye glasses lower on my nose than I used to, because my eyelashes "scratch" the lenses. Kinda funny. But keep it a secret, lest this should feed the 'fad diet' rumor! Anyone...
  17. Yikes! Maybe I know the cause of my getting sick with nuts...
  18. Wait, what??? I assumed nuts were ok. I have been getting repeatedly sick from eating nuts, but I blamed on my tummy being unable to handle high fat foods. :( I usually get them in store-bought plastic containers or from the bulk section. Have I been doing this wrong???
  19. Wow, thank you all, that's fantastic! I'll mention the protein enzymes to my doc tomorrow morning. Thank you again!
  20. Only if there's someone to read it, I suppose. And provided it's not a hanging quotation. The younger colleagues that came observing my class today were blown away. I'm pretty proud of myself.
  21. That seems doable, since it is already what I sort of do, even if I do it for grad-school budgeting reasons . What do you mean by "eating by families"?
  22. I get small, raised, red hives too! But on the upper parts of my arms and legs. Weird. They itch like crazy when they appear. I always have one or two smallish servings of yogurt and/or kefir per day: I wonder if this is ok for the numerous creatures living in me? I have almost no refined sugar at all, except for the sugar in my dark chocolate (75% and...
  23. Interesting! That would make sense, actually - the SIBO, I mean. What kind of rash did you get?
  24. Thanks! How do I know what enzymes I should try? What have you been taking (I assume it would not be the same for all people). Diana - when you say "rotational diet," do you mean just waiting for four days between eating the same food again? Does this have to apply to all foods, non excluded (eg. my baby lettuce, or the milk in my coffee)? I know my...
  25. For a couple of years, each time I ingested wheat and Co. I would get not only D, bloating, and rash, but also a weird swelling of the legs. I mean a "airline didn't let me get on my plane and shipped me to the hospital" kind of massive swelling. One of my doctors, about a year and a half ago, hypothesized that there was some kind of protein deficiency...
