  1. The amount of dairy could have been too much... I can't eat as much as I used to. But not all tortilla chips are gluten free. Unfortunately sounds like you lost on that gamble. Hope you feel better soon!!
  2. Not all corn tortilla chips are gluten free. And the dairy could be causing you issues. That was a gamble. Did it say gluten free anywhere at the stand? Did your hubs ask the vendor if it was gluten free?
  3. Some folks will deep condition with coconut oil. Supposedly makes your hair super soft. I've done it only a few times. I have thick, wavy hair. I also have folliculitis so I have to be VERY careful what I put on my scalp because it flares up. So I currently use the conditioner from Head ad Shoulders. It gets the job done. I have used argan oil on my hair...
  4. I second the America's Test Kitchen Gluten free book... they try 2 different flour company blends against one of their own and explain why one works better than the other etc. Fun read if you liked to bake prior to going gluten free.
  5. I choose to not travel for my birthday this weekend because of the stress and hassle of food prep. I'm just over that. So I get it. Sometimes it's more relaxing to be in your comfort zone, ie. your household that is totally safe. But there will be days when you'll want to venture out. Be kind to yourself... you'll go when you want to go.
  6. Try removing it from your diet. Then add it back in. See how your body responds.
  7. It is very possible that you are intolerant to yeast. Keep a food diary and continue to log your symptoms. I don't think you need to worry about gluten contaminating the yeast. Many with Celiac have additional food intolerances that they find once they go gluten free. Also your gut can just be extra sensitive while it repairs itself. The process can take...
  8. I will check them both out. I have only ever tried one white tea. But I don't remember the brand. Thanks. I do like chamomile by itself so mixing the two would make good sense. FYI I tried shortening my steeping time to 3 minutes (timed it) and added a touch of salt. BOOM. No bitterness! Thank you all!!! I have great suggestions to go by now. I...
  9. I think a real, true friend would understand. Try to educate them better about the disease if their attitude is receptive. If you've already gone that route and they still don't get it I would consider ditching them. You don't need the added stress of their callousness. I have a gluten free household. However my boyfriend does buy Muffins and then puts them...
  10. I'm fortunate that I have a gluten-free and dairy free dedicated bakery in Sacramento (Pushkin's) that is owned and operated by husband(celiac)/wife(non-celiac). They serve pastries as well as vegan sandwhiches that are sooo good. Napa also has several dedicated gluten-free restaurants in the Oxbow Market (Pica Pica and C. Casa, CA Cate and Co). I just discovered...
  11. It was heaven. I wish I had the energy for more spontaneous meals like this but usually default to grilled chicken, rice and veggies. I need to invest in a weekend day organize crock pot freezer meals.
  12. Tonight I had a big juicy beef burger on an Udi's bun with some crunchy tator tots. Such a naughty yet satisfying meal.
  13. Fantastic news! A doctor you have a good rapport with is so crucial when dealing with a chronic disease.
  14. Is lymphocytic colitis the same as microscopic colitis? If that is the case I may have both as well. I have a referral to a new GI next month and I wish to rule that in or out for good.
  15. Thanks for weighing in Bartfull. I don't have a soy intolerance that I know of but was curious about the link.
  16. The withdrawal period is real. It will get better, however. I also recommend that you cook you veggies and break them down into a puree or something easier digestible at first. That seems to help some people, including myself.
  17. Interesting. I only saw an abstract. Is the whole paper published somewhere? Also - is there a threshold for soy isoflavones like there is for gluten (20ppm)?
  18. Thank you Laura! I have had Teavana before but they are quite pricey... will have to check them out though! I think they sell Numi at my grocery store.. I'll check it out! Thank you for the translation!! So helpful! I may be leaving the bag in too long.. I'll try to shorten the steeping time. Neat trick! I never heard of that.
  19. Hello My Dear Friends! Are there some tea recommendations that you can give me? I am currently drinking Stash and while it's OK their green jasmine has a bitter after taste. Does anyone have any recommendations for tea that they love? I'm just looking for ideas... I generally like most flavors of tea and like trying new ones. I used to drink a genmaicha...
  20. I saw the conversation as helpful and giving suggestions based on experience, which is written into rule #5. That was, in my opinion, an ambiguous question.
  21. I buy Mission tortillas all the time. Not saying it's out of the realm of possibility but there are many here that have safely eaten Mission tortillas.
  22. Sounds like you know what the correct answer is. I won't advise you to continue running 3 marathons if you are eating gluten and having symptoms. Fitness goals are important but your health should come first. I body build and putting my goals aside for the first ~6 months after diagnosis was difficult but well worth it.
  23. I also applied for intermittent leave with FMLA. I have bad mornings and then come in for partial days every now and then and sometimes miss a day if I am feeling really terrible. It protects me from any retaliation.
  24. And they can scream (not a pleasant sound). Much better to have them pur/grunt.
  25. I made chicken fried steak and potatoes Saturday to mimmick the birthday dinner for my boyfriends Grandpa. Apparently it looked so similar people were asking if I was cheating. HA never! I brought everything over and heated it up in the microwave and ate with the folks like I was one of them. Moosie for the win!
