Here's a link to my recent ELISA testing results. http://www.snapdrive.net/files/584554/allergies.webp Got 19 three star ratings. Lots of them are common allergens, esp. for Celiacs. Not sure how much stock to put in this. See the following link for a critique of ELISA testing: Open Original Shared Link Not sure I'm up to a elimination/challenge...

ARCHIVED Falling Levels Of Platelets
trents replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm really glad you posted this topic. I have seen the same thing happen with me: slowly falling platelet count over the last 2-3 years. I was Dx with Celiac disease about 5 years ago. With the exception of total protein/albumin which is chronically a little low, my CBC/CMP values are normal. The platelets are now in the 180,000's, like you not yet out of... -
I'm assuming your electrolytes are too low. That is the more common problem with electrolytes. If this is true, then you may be diluting them with excessive fluid intake. Also, Celiac disease damages the small intestine whereas fluid uptake is accomplished in the large intestine (at the other end).

I had mildly elevated liver enzymes for about 12 years before Celiac dx. After going gluten free for 3 months they were in the normal range. My albumin and total protein remained supressed for about four years after going gluten free, however and are just now back into the low end of normal. I attribute it to live damage 'cause albumen is manufactured by...

ARCHIVED Low White Blood Count (wbc)
trents replied to Eileen13's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Was your doctor alarmed? It is rather odd that only the whites were down. Most of the blood/bown marrow disorders I am aware of either show high white couunts (leukemia) or show a broader spectrum of blood cell count variance, i.e., reds, whites and platelets being affected together such as with myelodysplasia or aplastic anemia. And if it was infection... -
ARCHIVED Alkaline Phosphatase
trents replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
One researcher estimates that 18-40% of Celiacs have elevated liver enzymes. This was what led to my being dx as a celiac. If those enzymes are elevated for a long time, even moderately, you risk liver damage. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Any Suggestions?
trents replied to Sesheta's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Might better start with basic blood tests like platelet count. Has that been checked? -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vs. Gluten Sensitivity
trents replied to happygirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So now we have "celiac disease", "gluten sensitivity", "gluten intolerance", "latent celiac disease", "refactory sprue" . . . Someone needs to develop a dictionary for us to keep track of the terminology. It was much easier when we all just had celiac disease. -
The trouble with magnesium supplementation is some people are sensistive to it and get the big "D". It is the main ingredient in Milk of Magnesia.

ARCHIVED Joint/muscle
trents replied to master44's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only thing that comes to mind is some kind of nerological damage from the Celiac disease. It is well-known that malabsorption of B vitamins sometimes results in nerve damage with celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Fagile Skin, Itchy Swelling Hands
trents replied to ohsotired's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would also suspect a reaction to the sanitizers and detergents you are using at work. I work in a healthcare setting and am constantly washing or santizing my hands. Ove the 16 years of working in this environment the hospital has used various agents and switched brands several times, sometimes as a cost cutting measure and sometimes in response to employee... -
ARCHIVED Igg Reaction Vs. Iga Reaction
trents replied to Cinnamon's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
At our Baptist church the couple who prepare the communion elements know I cannot take the wheat-based wafers so they break up some rice crackers for me and put the pieces into the dish along with the wheat wafers. I suppose some celiacs might cringe at that because of cross contamination fears but I'm not a particularly sensitive celiac and asymptomatic... -
ARCHIVED Igg Reaction Vs. Iga Reaction
trents replied to Cinnamon's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cinnamon, Are you Roman Catholic? There has been some recent deliberation done by Roman theologians in response to the growing awareness of the problem of gluten intolerance that makes some concessions for celiacs. Can't remember the specifics but I could probably hunt it up for you. I am not Catholic but a former Catholic coworker of mine at the Catholic... -
ARCHIVED Nightly Right Quadrant Pain & Itching/tickling - Mostly In Back

Could it be something with the right lung or even arthritis in the rib cage? -
ARCHIVED Nightly Right Quadrant Pain & Itching/tickling - Mostly In Back
trents replied to April in KC's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What gallbladder tests have you had done? The basic sonogram often does not reveal the disease because it will only find stones when stones are not the only cause of gallbladder disease, though the most common. Sometimes there are no stones that block the duct but the gallbladder just sort of dies and loses its ability to eject the bile which then just lays... -
ARCHIVED Autoimmunity After Going Gluten Free
trents replied to dana.naomi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The issue may not be that you are experiencing a continuation or extension of your your Celiac disease. It's just that autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. If you have one you are more likely to have others, statistically speaking, though each one may not be directly related to the others. It seems that some people are prone to develop autoimmune diseases... -
If the joint pain were caused by gluten I would think it would improve fairly quickly as the toxins were eliminated from your system. But if it's due to something else, say rheumatoid process or osteo artritis I would not expect it to change much. Have you been checked for other causes? A lot is blamed on gluten. I worry that celiacs make gluten intolerance...

ARCHIVED Degenerative Disc Disease
trents replied to KristaleeJane's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Krista, I don't know that DDD can be directly tied to Celiac disease. Degenarative discs, unlike osteoporosis or osteopenia which affect the bones and the vertebrae are not tied to calcium malabsorbtion that I know of. I certainly would recommend getting a dexascan done to check bone density as bone density loss is very common in Celiacs. You don't... -
Thanks, Rachel. The info about washing the seed may be the key to the whole issue as now that I've thought about it the processed quinoi products I've had (noodles, ect.) have not bothered me. Hum, I'm tempted to test it but also afraid. Steve
-
Rachel, Thanks. That was very helpful. My symptoms are similar to yours except I don't get the burning sensations around the mouth. Like you, the discomfort and distress I get from quinoi far exceeds any reactions I get with gluten. I don't think its the oxalates as I can eat other high oxalate foods such as spinach without a problem. It must be some protein...

Friends had me over for a gluten free lunch today and trust me, it was gluten free. They consulted with me extensively in planning the meal. Later in the afternoon I developed intense gut pain like I had swallowed a burning fire brand. It has largely subsided now. One of the things they served at lunch was quinoa. While writhing in pain on my couch my mind...

ARCHIVED Editing Your Own Post More Than Once
trents replied to trents's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks, everyone. The edit button disappeared on me in, I'm thinking, less than two hours. -
Can you edit your reply to a post more than once? I found a typo in my reply and edited it. Later when reading it again I found another typo but did not find the edit button.

ARCHIVED Low Lymphocyte Levels - Help?
trents replied to munchkinette's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You take cortico steriods to reduce inflamation in your airway passages. Inflamation is an immune system reponse designed to kill foreign invaders. Normally its a good thing but it is bad when the body mistakenly detects harmless substances as invaders, as is the case with asthma and anaphylaxys (i.e., people who die from bee stings, peanuts, etc.). Cortico... -
ARCHIVED Anemia And Other Deficiencies
trents replied to ShayFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been gluten free for almost 5 years now and still have to supplement my iron. I was worried about taking iron routinely because I didn't want to saturate my organs and tissues to toxic levels. I shoud also mention that I am a 57 year old male. Men usually have a probem with too much iron unless there is a specific disease process going on that dictates...
