ARCHIVED Can Celiac Cause Dysautonomia
trents replied to evo123's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good question and I don't know the exact answer but I do know folic acid is water soluble. I would think it would be leached from the system rather quickly. That's why you don't have to be as careful with water soluble vitamin supplementation as you do fat soluble vitamin supplementation because the water soluble ones don't remain behind in the body's tissues... -
Sue, I am staff chaplain in a hospital setting and have encountered many patients with C-diff. It's nasty stuff and my heart goes out to you. Take heart, though, you will eventually conquer it. It is contracted most often by those who have suffered an imbalance in their gut microbial mix such as those who have been on prolonged antibiotic therapy for other...

ARCHIVED Can Celiac Cause Dysautonomia
trents replied to evo123's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
"Gluten Intolerance expert Ron Hoggan, author of Dangerous Grains, uses magnesium for rebuilding bones, and recommends it as the most important supplement for Celiac Disease." Whenever I try Magnesium supplementation I get the runs. Finally figured out it is the active ingredient in Milk of Magnesia. -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Cause Dysautonomia
trents replied to evo123's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would not expect this to be a problem since you are getting B12 injections but just for your information and future reference folic acid supplementation will mask B12 deficiency. -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Cause Dysautonomia

B12 deficiency can cause neurological problems itself. How are your B12 and folic acid levels now? Are you getting B12 injections or taking folci acid supplements? -
ARCHIVED Medical Differentiation Between Celiac And Gluten Intolerance
trents replied to elle's mom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good question. The terminology seems to have morphed since I was digangosed with celiac disease 6 years ago and as mushroom indicated is in a state of flux. My current understanding, no - my impresssion, is that celiac disease is now being looked at by the scientific community as a subset of "gluten intolerance" that speaks particularly of an inflamatory... -

Thanks! That's good to know. I doubt if I could find that brand at Costco prices, however. -
ARCHIVED Oberto's Original Beef Jerky: Beware
trents posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For several years since going gluten free I have used Oberto's Original Flavor Beef Jerky as it WAS gluten free. The other flavors by Oberto had wheat in them but the Original didn't. I would buy the double pack at Costco because the price was so good. I checked it again today and it now has a wheat-based soy sauce in it. Beware. -
I am on calcium, 1000mg per day Vit D3 supplementation and get some magnesium in combo with the others and with multi vit. I am also on Fosamax. I have not persoally experienced any side effects from the Fosamax that I am aware of. Some people get bad uppper GI distress from Fosamax but I seem to tolerate it well. I am a 58-year-old male celiac with osteopenia...

An antidepressant may help. Drugs like Xanax or ativan are hepful for acute episodes and for maintenance many of the common antidepressants are helpful such as efexor. From a mental healh perspective, there is a lot of overlap between depression and anxiety. One is almost the flip side of the other.

As k-dawg said, the osteopenia/osteoporosis is probably more related to the bone density already lost before you were diagnosed with Celiac disease. The other consideration is the fact that osteoporosis can be due to other factors besides Celiac disease. Many people have osteoporosis but do not have Celiac disease. It can be a hereditary condition whose exact...

ARCHIVED What Foods Are You Intolerant To?
trents replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Quinoa. Yes, that's correct, quinoa. See my post from yesterday. -
Millet is just a form of rice I think. If you do okay with rice then you should be okay with millet. Have you tried amarynth? It is delicious but a little spendy. Actually, I'm not going to miss quinoa much as I don't like the taste. It smells and tastes like wet, moldy grass seed to me.

Quinoa gives me severe GI distress when I eat it as a breakfast cereal or a side dish but when combined with other grains such as corn in noodles I seem to be okay with it. Perhaps with the noodles the difference is the concentration or the processing that either dilutes the offensive ingredient or changes it in some way. From the research I've done I think...

ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia And Food/proton Pump Inhib
trents replied to Ivy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been taking a proton pump inhibitor for about 5 years now to control GERD. I take Protonix 40mg daily. It works very well to control the GERD. I do not notice any side effects. My concern, however, is that it will have a negagive effect on calcium absorption because of raising stomach PH. Calcim, iron and some other minerals need an acid environment... -
Pyloric Stenosis, Raynaud's, And Celiac
trents replied to NoG4MeWV's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know about the pyloric stenosis but the others are all auto immune conditions. One theory about pyloric stenosis is that it is an allergic reaction. -
ARCHIVED Bleeding Gums, Sensitive Teeth
trents replied to SandyStPeteFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't have bleeding gums but do have problem with sensiitve teeth. Anymore I hate to get my teeth cleaned every six months at the dentist because they are so painfully sensitive to cold liquids for 2-3 weeks after cleaning. -
Back to you main question; the relationship between Vit D deficiency and Celiac Disease. Vit D is one of the fat souable vitamins. Destrucition of the nutrient absorbing micro villi seems to particularly affect the absorbption of fat soluable nutrients, which is exacebated if you also have chronic diarehah. Many celiacs notice the undigested fat floating...

Find out what's in the matches that you are craving? Sulfur? I might suggest using black strap molasses regularly. It is high in iron and sulfur. Tastes yummy, too. I used to just gulp a couple of tablespoons every evening.

Yes, I had cellulitis 8 or 9 years ago. I never did figure out the source of the infection. There was no wound evident. This was before my celiac disease dx. Had a dickens of a time getting rid of it. Dr. put me on appropriate oral antibiotics that did not do the job. As soon as he switiched me to IM shots it made a dramatic difference. He was stumped in...

ARCHIVED Question For Dairy/casein Intolerant?
trents replied to Crayons574's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Possibly. Someone may not be intolerant of whey just because they are intolerant of caseine. They are different proteins. -
ARCHIVED Digestive Prob Other Than celiac disease
trents replied to debmidge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Two questions: 1. Does the problem you describe pertain to your husband (whose journey to celiac disease dx you describe in detail at the bottom of your post)? I assume it does but you never really say that. And 2. How long does it take for what he eats to show up in his stool, i.e., what is the turn around time? Normal digestive turn around time is about... -
I was one of those whose liver enzymes were elevated because of celiac disease. It was what led to my diagnosis, in fact, because my GI symptoms were very minor. However, once going on a gluten free diet those liver enzymes returned to normal and have been ever since. My ALT and AST numbers were in the 40's and 50's before going gluten-free and the fact that...

ARCHIVED How Many Of You Have Lost Relatives To Colon Cancer?
trents replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't think there is a link between celiac disease and colon cancer. The two diseases affect opposite ends of the 25' long intestinal tube. -
ARCHIVED Seasonal Allergies Triggering Celiac

Do you live in a farming area where wheat, barley or rye is being grown? Grains seeded in the autumn (i.e. "winter wheat") may be pollinating by now. Don't know if that would be a possible connection but the thought crossed my mind.
