  1. I haven't tried teff very often but the last two times I've eaten it I got very sick with severe stomach cramps. Teff kernels have a resin that if not thouroughly washed off can do this for some people.
  2. Food allergy testing is fraught with problems and shouldn't be taken as definitive. It may be helpful to the extent that it suggests patterns of things, especially if your actual symptomatic experience fits in with patterns you see in the allergy panel results. A lot of us with celiac disease will show allergies to so many foods it is impractical/impossible...
  3. Canker sores are actually caused by one of the herpes viruses.
  4. If you aren't absobing calcium through the gut I don't think it would wind up in your gums or any other part of your body. It would just pass through your intestines and into the potty.
  5. Trying to eliminate sinus/nasal problems/cough at night and frequent morning headaches. No GI problems. I should have mentioned that I also had the inhalent skin prick allergy testing done and it was positive for many common things like molds, grasses, dust, dust mites, tree pollens, pets, ect. I started allergy shots last week. So you see, I'm dealing with...
  6. Thanks for the advice about eliminating the personal info. Yes, I am a Celiac - confirmed by blood testing and biopsy. Yes, I am on a gluten-free diet and have been for several years.
  7. Here's a link to my recent ELISA testing results. http://www.snapdrive.net/files/584554/allergies.webp Got 19 three star ratings. Lots of them are common allergens, esp. for Celiacs. Not sure how much stock to put in this. See the following link for a critique of ELISA testing: Open Original Shared Link Not sure I'm up to a elimination/challenge...
  8. I'm really glad you posted this topic. I have seen the same thing happen with me: slowly falling platelet count over the last 2-3 years. I was Dx with Celiac disease about 5 years ago. With the exception of total protein/albumin which is chronically a little low, my CBC/CMP values are normal. The platelets are now in the 180,000's, like you not yet out of...

    ARCHIVED Dehydration

I'm assuming your electrolytes are too low. That is the more common problem with electrolytes. If this is true, then you may be diluting them with excessive fluid intake. Also, Celiac disease damages the small intestine whereas fluid uptake is accomplished in the large intestine (at the other end).
  10. I had mildly elevated liver enzymes for about 12 years before Celiac dx. After going gluten free for 3 months they were in the normal range. My albumin and total protein remained supressed for about four years after going gluten free, however and are just now back into the low end of normal. I attribute it to live damage 'cause albumen is manufactured by...
  11. Was your doctor alarmed? It is rather odd that only the whites were down. Most of the blood/bown marrow disorders I am aware of either show high white couunts (leukemia) or show a broader spectrum of blood cell count variance, i.e., reds, whites and platelets being affected together such as with myelodysplasia or aplastic anemia. And if it was infection...
  12. One researcher estimates that 18-40% of Celiacs have elevated liver enzymes. This was what led to my being dx as a celiac. If those enzymes are elevated for a long time, even moderately, you risk liver damage.
  13. Might better start with basic blood tests like platelet count. Has that been checked?
  14. So now we have "celiac disease", "gluten sensitivity", "gluten intolerance", "latent celiac disease", "refactory sprue" . . . Someone needs to develop a dictionary for us to keep track of the terminology. It was much easier when we all just had celiac disease.
  15. The trouble with magnesium supplementation is some people are sensistive to it and get the big "D". It is the main ingredient in Milk of Magnesia.
  16. The only thing that comes to mind is some kind of nerological damage from the Celiac disease. It is well-known that malabsorption of B vitamins sometimes results in nerve damage with celiac disease.
  17. I would also suspect a reaction to the sanitizers and detergents you are using at work. I work in a healthcare setting and am constantly washing or santizing my hands. Ove the 16 years of working in this environment the hospital has used various agents and switched brands several times, sometimes as a cost cutting measure and sometimes in response to employee...
  18. At our Baptist church the couple who prepare the communion elements know I cannot take the wheat-based wafers so they break up some rice crackers for me and put the pieces into the dish along with the wheat wafers. I suppose some celiacs might cringe at that because of cross contamination fears but I'm not a particularly sensitive celiac and asymptomatic...
  19. Cinnamon, Are you Roman Catholic? There has been some recent deliberation done by Roman theologians in response to the growing awareness of the problem of gluten intolerance that makes some concessions for celiacs. Can't remember the specifics but I could probably hunt it up for you. I am not Catholic but a former Catholic coworker of mine at the Catholic...
  20. Could it be something with the right lung or even arthritis in the rib cage?
  21. What gallbladder tests have you had done? The basic sonogram often does not reveal the disease because it will only find stones when stones are not the only cause of gallbladder disease, though the most common. Sometimes there are no stones that block the duct but the gallbladder just sort of dies and loses its ability to eject the bile which then just lays...
  22. The issue may not be that you are experiencing a continuation or extension of your your Celiac disease. It's just that autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. If you have one you are more likely to have others, statistically speaking, though each one may not be directly related to the others. It seems that some people are prone to develop autoimmune diseases...

    ARCHIVED Joint Pain

If the joint pain were caused by gluten I would think it would improve fairly quickly as the toxins were eliminated from your system. But if it's due to something else, say rheumatoid process or osteo artritis I would not expect it to change much. Have you been checked for other causes? A lot is blamed on gluten. I worry that celiacs make gluten intolerance...
  24. Hi Krista, I don't know that DDD can be directly tied to Celiac disease. Degenarative discs, unlike osteoporosis or osteopenia which affect the bones and the vertebrae are not tied to calcium malabsorbtion that I know of. I certainly would recommend getting a dexascan done to check bone density as bone density loss is very common in Celiacs. You don't...
