Yea, I seem to have lots of "filters".

About a year and a half ago I went to an ENT because of chronic congestin and post nasal drip/coughing during the night which interferred with my sleep. He did a CAT scan and showed me the films. I had infection in the right maxillary sinus and a polyp partially obstructing the outlet. I was really surprized since I wasn't having pain/pressure or the classic...

You got to read this! When I saw this article, I said to myself, "They've got it right!" This article espouses a theory that is a much more conprehensive and true to our community's real life experience than the traditional understanding of celiac disease. My only quibble is that I think they incorrectly apply the label of allergy to celiac disease, but it...

ARCHIVED I Have A Question
trents replied to kalanfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just be aware that allergy/food sensitivity tests are far from 100% acurate. They often give false positives and false negatives. They are only a starting point. To be more definitive, the allergy/sensitivity tests need to be combined with elimination diets where you cut out certain foods for a while and then try reintroducing them to your diet. Steve -
ARCHIVED Z-pack/azithromycin
trents replied to key's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's a good med and has been very effective for me when I've had sinus infections. The fact that the regimine is only 5 days instead of the usual 10 prevents may people from developing GI distress. -
ARCHIVED Reply From Glaxosmithkline

Sounds like it might not cause problems unless a person is particularly sensitive to gluten, although I know its not smart for any Celiac to knowingly expose themselves to any amount of gluten. You know, I wonder if Celiacs would just rinse with water after using this product if it would be ok for all. As long as it didn't make it into the gut I think it... -

Dear Mr. Trent, Thank you for contacting us regarding Sensodyne® toothpaste. Although we do not add gluten to any of our Sensodyne® products, our raw materials suppliers could not guarantee that they are gluten-free. Therefore, Sensodyne® may contain trace amounts of gluten. If you are looking for a sensitive toothpaste that is gluten-free, yo... -

Just did some research and found out that high platelet counts can be caused by chronic iron deficiency. Didn't know that. That would certainly fit with you. Open Original Shared Link Steve -
ARCHIVED Blood-related Problems
trents replied to happiestgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jen, Has anyone done a bone marrow biopsy on you lately? The platelets going up are not normal for Celiac disease, though anemia is. Are you on iron supplementation? Steve -
I think you may be right about that. Really, Celiac disease seems to be part of a syndrome pattern when you consider all the various spinoffs it has and not all of them can be explained by malabsorption. For a lot of people, there are problems that persist even after they go gluten free. Steve

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Tooth Paste For Sensitive Teeth

I don't understand. All three of their sensitive teeth products are advertised as having whitening agents. Yes, I was aware that Sensodyne was not gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Tooth Paste For Sensitive Teeth
trents replied to trents's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tiffany, Can you give me the exact name of this Crest product? I see from looking at the company's web site that they make three different products for sensitive teeth. Do you know if they all are gluten free? Thanks, Steve -
In the media I have seen several times lately the assertion that Celiac disease is caused by the inability to break down gluten, i.e., the lack of an ezyme or something. I'm not sure that is the nature of the disease. My understanding is that it is actually an abnormal immune response to gluten rather than in inability to break it down.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Tooth Paste For Sensitive Teeth
trents posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been using Aquafresh for sensitive teeth because I read somewhere when I was first dx with Celiac disease that it was gluten free. Can anyone confirm this and does anyone know of other gluten free tooth paste products that are for sensitive teeth, especially one that is commonly found in chain grocery stores? The Aquafresh for sensitive teeth is hard... -
Glutened from the drywall paste being used in your house? Are you serious? Do you mean the fumes or what? I thought gluten had to be ingested to cause Celiacs a problem.

Someone else posted a topic about warts which prompted me to throw this out to the community for input. Sometimes I get these dry, rough patches on the underside my fingers. Usually they are most noticeable on the index and and middle finger but sometimes the thumb is involved. They typically appear between the second and third joints, that is if I'm counting...

ARCHIVED Promising New Gluten Degrading Med Being Developed
trents posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Don't know if this has already been posted. My son saw it and sent it to me. One of several promising medication therapies being developed that, if they pan out in clinical trials, will be a blessing to Celiacs. Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link Steve -

ARCHIVED Chronic Anemia
trents replied to trents's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You ask how high my iron ever got? Two or three months after my diagnosis and the initial iron supplementaion I spoke of, the Hemaglobin was 15.0 and Hematacrit was 45.1. That was in January of '04. That held steady for about a year and a half. I started donating blood again sometime after that as the blood center finally cleared me as a doner. (My liver... -
ARCHIVED Chronic Anemia
trents posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Okay, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease about 2 1/2 years ago and a recent antibody test showed that I am being successful at gluten-free compliance. I was mildly anemic at time of diagnosis so the GI doc put me on an iron supplement for a couple of months and that brought my hemaglobin/hematacrit nicely up into the middle of normal range. A year after... -
ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
trents replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How are your liver enzymes doing since going gluten-free? Have you had allergy/food sensitivity testing done? It is well-known that Celiacs typically develop other food sensitivities because of the leaky gut issue. Also, the anti glidden antibody tests can be falsely positive, that's why they do the small intestine biopsy to confirm what the antibody tests... -
ARCHIVED Why Am I Gaining Weight? Soooo Confused
trents replied to deena647's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm not so sure it is correct to say that "typically, Celiacs are underweight". I think that might be true for those who have the classic symptoms of the disease, esp. frequent diarreah and dumping when they eat gluten, but we now know that most Celiacs don't have dramatic GI distress. If you read this board topic about weight issues, there are an awful lot... -
ARCHIVED Overweight Before I Was Diagnosed. Has Anyone Lost Weight Since Going Gluten Free?
trents replied to jacklyn1981's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am a 55 yr. old male and went gluten free about 2 1/2 years ago after having developed, in hind sight, Celiac disease in about 1990. I noticed that within 2 months of going gluten free I put on about 10 lbs. which I attribute to better absorption of nutrients. I've put on about 2 more pounds since then. I exercise semi-regularly. At my stage of life some... -
ARCHIVED Genetics
trents replied to watchthestars's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have read the chances are somethng like one in ten or one in twenty (depending on the expert) that you will be a Celiac if you have a "close relative" who is one. I think "close relative" was defined as someone in your immediate family, like a parent or a sibling. If your brother has lactose intolerance, you may already know that this is very common with... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know What This Could Be?
trents replied to Phila's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'd push for a hide-a-scan if I were you. It's a gallbladder test that checks for ejection factor. You many not have gallstones (what the ordinary ultrasound checks for) but your gallbladder may not be contracting well enough to push out the bile. It can stay in there too long and get foul. Or, you may have some small stones that are blocking the duct but...
