  1. I developed my first floater about 2 years ago. It seems to move around and sometimes cloud the vision in my right eye. It is caused by the vitreous homor (the thick liquid that inflates the eye and keeps it round) detaching from the inner surface of the eyeball. At present, there isn't any effective treatment. Eye Dr. said they are pretty common as you age...
  2. Are you going through the change of life? My wife, who is, sweats at the drop of a hat. Of course, she comes from a family of heavy sweaters but it has gotten worse in middle age. We have a hard time a agreeing on how many covers to put on the bed, where to set the house thermostat at, and whether or not we need to have the air conditioning in the car on...
  3. I've been on Fosamax for 2+ years and haven't had any GI problems, but I know people who just can't tolerate it. I have a slight effervesent "fizzie" sensation the first couple of seconds after I swallow it but that's about all. I can't say its rebuilt any of my bones 'cause the dexascan didn't demonstrate any improvement in density but maybe at 55 years...
  4. Isn't infection usually associated with high WBC? I work in a healthcare setting and that's what we see, for instance when someone has appendicitis or a UTI. If WBC is low I would suspect some other pathology. Our daughter has aplastic anemia (an autoimmune suppression of the bone marrow) and she often has low WBC. Some medications can cause low WBC such...
  5. "NEUTS" are neutrophils, a measure of infection fighting capacity. Steve
  6. Say did you guys see the article in the most recent Celiac.com newsletter about studies comparing healing in older celiacs vs. younger celiacs after going gluten-free? If I understood it correctly, it said that both groups showed demonstrated substantial healing of the small bowel by the end of two years of gluten-free eating when endoscopies/biopsies were...
  7. This one sounds more promising than several other recently touted "enzyme" products that "help celiacs digest gluten." The problem isn't that celiacs can't digest gluten. The problem is that certain peptide chains in gluten cause an inflamatory reaction in the lining of the gut for those who have the disease. This one might actually work because it takes...

    ARCHIVED 5 Htp

Terese, I was Just reading your bio at the bottom of your post. Is your hemoglobin and hematocrit high without the B12 injections? I assume you are taking the B12 injections because you have pernicious anemia. Steve
  9. Before celiac disease dx and going gluten free, I had symptoms similar to what is described in the definitions of these symptoms. I also had rectal seepage which would cause me to brown spot my undies nearly every day. This has also disappeared. Looking back, these were the primary GI symptoms I had. At the time, I just thought it was IBS. Thanks for the...
  10. Jersey girl, You seem to be making a distinction between celiac disease and "gluten intolerance". I'm not sure I buy that. Perhaps you should explain what the difference is in your mind. I use these terms (though I prefer "gluten sensitivity" to "gluten intolerance") synonymously. Although "sensitivity" may seem a little too milk toasty as a handle...
  11. I think Andrew might have a valid point about the "intolerance" terminology. I read a book recently on food allergies/intolerances/sensitivities. The author had a section on the terminology related to pathlogic food reactions and she assigned "gluten sensitivity" to celiac disease. I think "gluten sensitivity" is a better handle than "gluent intolerance"...
  12. Ditto. My wife smells everything. I only smell the very strongest odors. In a way, it is a blessing sometimes. Steve
  13. Thanks for your observations, Andrew. You are correct in that there are a number of informational contradictions/discrepancies/errors in that article and, yes, they are trying to sell something but the big picture of what they are saying seems to ring true with our experience. By that I mean they seem to grasp that gluten sensitivity may not be a single,...
  14. Yea, I seem to have lots of "filters".
  15. About a year and a half ago I went to an ENT because of chronic congestin and post nasal drip/coughing during the night which interferred with my sleep. He did a CAT scan and showed me the films. I had infection in the right maxillary sinus and a polyp partially obstructing the outlet. I was really surprized since I wasn't having pain/pressure or the classic...
  16. You got to read this! When I saw this article, I said to myself, "They've got it right!" This article espouses a theory that is a much more conprehensive and true to our community's real life experience than the traditional understanding of celiac disease. My only quibble is that I think they incorrectly apply the label of allergy to celiac disease, but it...
  17. Just be aware that allergy/food sensitivity tests are far from 100% acurate. They often give false positives and false negatives. They are only a starting point. To be more definitive, the allergy/sensitivity tests need to be combined with elimination diets where you cut out certain foods for a while and then try reintroducing them to your diet. Steve
  18. It's a good med and has been very effective for me when I've had sinus infections. The fact that the regimine is only 5 days instead of the usual 10 prevents may people from developing GI distress.
  19. Sounds like it might not cause problems unless a person is particularly sensitive to gluten, although I know its not smart for any Celiac to knowingly expose themselves to any amount of gluten. You know, I wonder if Celiacs would just rinse with water after using this product if it would be ok for all. As long as it didn't make it into the gut I think it...
  20. Dear Mr. Trent, Thank you for contacting us regarding Sensodyne® toothpaste. Although we do not add gluten to any of our Sensodyne® products, our raw materials suppliers could not guarantee that they are gluten-free. Therefore, Sensodyne® may contain trace amounts of gluten. If you are looking for a sensitive toothpaste that is gluten-free, yo...
  21. Just did some research and found out that high platelet counts can be caused by chronic iron deficiency. Didn't know that. That would certainly fit with you. Open Original Shared Link Steve
  22. Jen, Has anyone done a bone marrow biopsy on you lately? The platelets going up are not normal for Celiac disease, though anemia is. Are you on iron supplementation? Steve
  23. I think you may be right about that. Really, Celiac disease seems to be part of a syndrome pattern when you consider all the various spinoffs it has and not all of them can be explained by malabsorption. For a lot of people, there are problems that persist even after they go gluten free. Steve
  24. I don't understand. All three of their sensitive teeth products are advertised as having whitening agents. Yes, I was aware that Sensodyne was not gluten free.
  25. Tiffany, Can you give me the exact name of this Crest product? I see from looking at the company's web site that they make three different products for sensitive teeth. Do you know if they all are gluten free? Thanks, Steve
