Confused--Old Symptoms?

I feel like I post on here so much with my crazy questions but I'm just starting this new life with celiac. I'm going on 3 months of gluten-free. I'm quickly figuring out when I've been contaminated or accidently had gluten. It only took one time to make me OCD about being careful.  My question is this? Can old symptoms reappear with out ingesting gluen as one is healing? I'm personally sticking to a whole foods diet. I've discovered it's easier on my stomach. Things I had no problem digesting four months ago now hurt my stomach (non gluten foods) as soon as it hits my stomach.

 

This newest old symptom to reappear is tender, sore ankles that have now led to swollen ankles.

 

I'm so confused..just as I think I'm figuring things out..poof! <_<

It sounds like something is still triggering an autoimmune response and causing inflammation.   Have you been checked for other AI diseases?  Have you checked medication and OTC medicines?.  Are you getting beauty products in your mouth like shampoo, face creams, lipstick?  Are you kissing a gluten eater?  Have you replaced appropriate kitchen products?  

 

Look at everything you use very closely, maybe you'll find something.

I agree that it could be another AI issue that was perhaps exacerbated by gluten (in the past) so it appeared more often.  I would make a note of it and perhaps see your doctor. That happened to me too at the 2-3 month mark and I strongly suspected that it was rheumatological or hashimoto's related. If you think it is gluten related, only more time on the diet will tell, although I agree that it's not common for a celiac symptom to reappear after 3 months gluten-free.

I did reach out to two major hospitals and currently waiting on approval for one of them in Infectious Diseases to call me.       Dang. I had a moment of hope that I could change my BP med and get off the gluten-free diet. Nope. More seriously, I hadn't seen this articles about this phenomenon before. This is one of the possible answers for people who post here about having celiac symptoms (including biopsy) but normal IgA levels, especially if they are saying that diet isn't helping...

      oops. I didn't see that before posting or I would have at least referenced it. The two recipes are pretty similar, but I think the newer one is a little simpler/faster. Next time though I will search more before posting.

Neither did surgeon)in 2006 and there was a leak 2023 during the same time I was dealing with covid, digestive issues, eyes and skin.Considering I " should  be fine" not consuming gluten/wheat, taking vitamins for sibo and STILL feeling terrible.It has to be parasites. I also take individual eye drops prescribed, could there be an issue there? Anyways my pcp thinks I need therapy because again they don't acknowledge my digestive issues because in my records it shows im fine, hintz the reason I had to go back to bay area hospital:(  I thought skin issues maybe sibo related but I feel and have seen and seriously trying not to think about it because it's disgusting.

      This may not be the cause, it's pure speculation on my part, but for 10-15 years I had a tingling/burning/electric-like shock sensation that emanated from my right-neck upward across the right-side of my head. I was worried about having a stroke or something so got all sorts of tests done, including an MRI, which found not much--only a minor degenerative disk in my neck--which I just accepted as the cause. Fast forward to when I was ~45 and I was hit with shingles in the EXACT place that this sensation would travel--I ended up with a very painful case of shingles that felt like the right-side of my head had been set on fire, and had the blistering and pain that ran along the exact path of nerves that I had felt this sensation travel along for the prior 10-15 years. For me, that time period was a shingles pre-cursor, and all those feelings were likely inflammation in my nerves. Needless to say I've not had this since getting my shingles vaccines at 50.  Your situation could very well be something else, but I just wanted to mention this possibility because your symptoms sound similar to what I experienced. I'm not sure if you're in the age range to get a shingles vaccine, but it may be something to consider.
