Hi everyone!

I am hereby inviting everyone and anyone on these boards for a gluten-free get together.

I realize that it is just not that easy, but I feel as though there have been a lot of discouraged posters lately.

Let's cheer up, get together, and have some fun.

Depending on numbers is what I will plan.

I live in Niagara Falls, Canada - and am planning for a weekend in November.

Please PM me if you are interested!

RSVP as soon as possible!

Hi Lorka 150

This sounds like a really great idea!! It is really nice of you to offer to handle it all. I'm afraid that Maryland is too far to travel from, or I'd be there with bells on.

I hope the party works out. Have a great time :)

That is so sweet :D I would love to if I am ever in that area..I live in Maryland as well so I know that will not be possible anytime soon.

That sounds great! It would take me about 3 to 4 hours each way to drive to Niagara falls (depending on traffic), but it would be worth it. I have two weekends free in November, the weekend of the 12th and 13th, and the 19th and 20th. I hope that others will be interested as well, so it will work out, and that one of those weekends works for you and others.

I could probably stay over night at a friend's house in Cambridge on my way back, so I don't have to do it all in one day (I still haven't got much energy).

Thanks for inviting us.

Ursula

Great idea but it's a long way from PA!

Have fun. Claire

I'd be interested, if I wasn't all the way across the country, and busy as a bee in November! But that's a GREAT! idea, and I hope it goes well!

Great idea and so kind of you!

Unfortunately, Niagara Falls is way too far from the UK, so I'll have to decline, but I wish you well for the party. Let us all know how it goes.

Oh, I wish I could, I'm only about 3 hours away but traveling is still a big trial for me. My ex-husband and I (legally seperated 15 years no divorce) are celebrating out 20th anniversary next week and I am nervous as hell about just driving 45 min. to Rochester for a coin show. I work on the celiac induced agorophobia issue daily so maybe if you do this again in the spring I can come. I would love to see Niagra Falls again and would love even more to be able to make freinds, something I haven't had since soon after I got sick. Thanks for the suggestion really, really, really wish I could.

I'm already driving up there next Saturday for a week. But you guys already know about that. So when I'm there from November 5th to 11th I won't come up another weekend. At the moment we try to get together one of the days I'm up there. We're talking about somewhere West of Toronto at the moment. And the offer's still there, that we all could meet. But it's still sweet, that you planned this.

Greetings, Stef

It's a great idea but bad time of year for me expensive plane fares etc., but maybe plan something for late spring somewhere. I am in Alberta.

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
