    Do you have questions about celiac disease or the gluten-free diet?

Hi i'm new to this, my girlfriend has been diagnosed for 2 years now with celiac disease and with me being a  non celiac. I try my hardest to still keep eating gluten but also try to not get her sick.I'd rather have her happy and healthy than eat gluten though.  It's hard because i hate seeing her sick and miserable. Any suggestions would be great.  Along with the celiac disease my girlfriend is also allergic to yeast (cross reactive or it acts the same as gluten) and is also allergic to dairy,soy,peanuts,eggs.

IMHO the best way to handle this is for you to only eat gluten when you're away from home. Brush your teeth very well before kissing her after you've eaten any gluten or any of her allergens.

It's wonderful that you are supporting her so!

Hi.....I am also a newbie....just found out I ve been having Asafoetida since going gluten free.....just wanted to know is Asafoetida even in little amount is enough to flare up the gluten sensitivity?

Yes, even a tiny exposure to gluten can cause a flare-up.  I understand that this spice is usually diluted with wheat flour.  It is best to contact the manufacturer or find a certified gluten free source.

      Celiac Emotional Healing Support Group
       
       
       
      Again you are invited to join Johnny Patout, LCSW for Baton Rouge's first emotional healing support group meeting to assist those living with celiac disease manage the emotional challenges so many of us face. Most often the emotional disturbances include depression, disinterest in normal activities, insomnia, grief, mood changes, anxiety, inability to concentrate, extreme concern about managing a gluten-free lifestyle and other emotional and behavioral challenges.
       
      The professionals at Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center created the emotional healing support group to give us a safe place to begin to process our emotions and support each other as we heal emotionally while managing celiac disease and the resulting autoimmune disorders.
       
      The emotional healing support group meets every Thursday, 6:00-7:00pm, at the Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center of Baton Rouge. Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center is located at 4637 Jamestown Avenue, Baton Rouge, Suite B-1. Suite B-1 is upstairs.

Oh yes, that does sound good!  I've always been fine with potatoes, but just haven't eaten them all that frequently, and usually in a recipe that specifically needed or called for them.  But for the next few months, at least, I think I'll be using them much more. Not that I want to try to subsist mostly on carbs here, but I am also going to be using more sweet pototoes, and also trying to incorporate both plantains (cooking bananas) and yuca (cassava root) into my diet as well.  Both of the
