How Quickly Can Diet Change Work?

Recommended Posts

I started Mason last monday. He had a couple of slips on tuesday and wednesday~ both with dry cereals, and in small amounts. we didn't see any changes, but, it has been 4 days now totally gluten free.

I substituted organic rice cereals for his favorite cherios and wheat puffs, and he now has gladly accepted them to prevent the slips again.

Well..... Yesterday we waited all day with baited breath ( and a clothespin for our noses.. ) and... Nothing. He had ONE nearly formed stool last night~ the closest he's ever had to "normal"... This is a far, far cry from the mulitple blowouts, still occurring just two days before. The day prior was still messy, but less frequent than normal.

Is this it? Could it be from the diet change already? Oh please say it can be so!!!!! Can it just happen, like that? Oh please. I hope so..

Depends alot on the child. My son was 18 months old when we did it, and we notice a major difference with in 3 days. Took longer for 100% recovery, of course.

It varies on the person and how much damage, etc. I did not see a difference significantly until a few months and it took about 8 months for me to feel normal again.

Sounds like he's on his way to recovery. For myself and teen son, that was the first thing we noticed. Within days our bm were formed. No explosive diarrhea. Of course it takes longer to completely heal and after months of being gluten-free,we still have reactions to otherfoods such as dairy. We are still healing and it takes time.

It sounds like your off to a good start! :)

I was afraid it was a fluke, LOL. But, today so far is the same, still no explosive Bm's, and we generally have 3 by this time already. I am SO hopeful. I will see what happens today, then call the ped GI and let him know I've already started the trial and seen results, so we will be passing on the meds... I hope this sticks!!!! It will be SO nice to have him gaining weight again and feeling better.

Oh yes. the damage. So far the only thing they see is total inflamation throughout the colon~ so hopefully he will heal up nicely....

My daughter has been on the diet for 2 weeks now and I am seeing results. She used to have 10 explosive bms a day and then cutting out dairy brought us down to 3 a day. Now that she is on the diet they quickly went to one a day and now we have had a few times where she went a day and a half or with out one! And they are no longer explosive! Glad to hear you are getting results!

My daughter was so much better in 5 days. she had terrible headaches for 2 days and was very volitile but now has settled down a lot. She has grown 2cm in 6 weeks, and is off all her motillium, zantac, etc meds.
