I have an appointment with a new GI on Monday, and I'm really optimistic about this guy! He is my mom and dad's GI and they are really happy with him. I finally got a referal for him after I called my Dr. with a problem (that took care of itself) a few weeks ago. I haven't been to a GI in a year and a half and had a TERRIBLE experience last time! I really want to have a good GI that I can call when I have problems, but right now I feel great! The problems I was having a few weeks ago went away, and I'm pretty sure were just side affects from being glutened. I'm nervous now about what I'm going to talk to this guy about. I can see the conversation now......"Hi I'm Christine. I feel great, so thanks for seeing me!" To make matters worse, I didn't have much of a diagnosis to start with due to a Dr. that didn't know what she was doing. I had been sick for a long time, and my mom suggested celiac disease as a possibility since I had a family history of it. I went to my Dr. and asked what she thought. She said the way they diagnosed celiac disease was to try the gluten-free diet and see if it helped. I did what I was told and felt 150% better right away, so I didn't think anything of it until 6 months later when I heard about biopsies and blood tests. I went to a GI then and he wouldn't even see me unless I agreed to a biopsy and when it came back inconclusive he wouldn't see me at all. I'm not sure what to say to this new guy. It's not my fault that I was not properly diagnosed and I don't want to be punished for it.....and there is no way in hell that I'm going to eat gluten again. I can't imagine being that sick again just for a proper diagnosis. Has anyone else been in this kind of situation?

Hi i to am facing the same problem i go to see my new gastro on thursday and i was sat here puzzling over what i need to say to him. i was in too minds to cancel the appointment because i dont know what am going to say. First of all i havent been diagnosed by a gastro doc but a nueroligist, i was seen because i was having nerve problems and seizures and was given a full body ct scan which pick up celiac diease. so i was working off that and got myself almost better. but at my celiac group they mentioned to me to go to a gastro doc and discuss the findings with him. but all he can do is say well i guess that must be it and your so much better.!

so i feel like am wasting my and his time. but yet i havent been fully diagnosed with it i did it on my own merit. so am in the same situation as yourself, your appointment is before mine so i would be grateful if you give us an update on what he says.

      There is a 10 year old post in this forum on Edy's and Dreyer's ice cream. The information is somewhat outdated and the thread is closed to further comment, so here is a new one. Edy's And Dreyer's Grand Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - 1.5 Quart is labeled "Gluten Free". This is a different answer than years gone by. I don't know the answer for any other flavor at this moment. On 1 May, 2026, Edy's website says: "As a general rule, the gluten in Edy's and Dreyer's® frozen dessert products is present only in the added bakery products, such as cookies, cake or brownies. We always label the eight major food allergens on our package by their common name. We recommend to always check the label for the most current information before purchasing and/or consuming a product. The exception to this rule is our Slow Churned French Silk frozen dairy dessert, which contains gluten in the natural flavors." https://www.icecream.com/us/en/brands/edys-and-dreyers/faq It seems that Edy's and Dreyer's are more celiac-friendly than they were 10 years ago. Once I found enough information to make today's buying decision, I stopped researching.

      My dad had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.  Fortunately, it was discovered during an exam.  The doctor could feel my dad's heart beating in his stomach/abdomen.  The aneurysm burst when the doctor first touched it in surgery.  Since he was already hooked up to the bypass machine, my dad survived ten more years.  Close call!       You have an odd story there. To me, the mechanical trigger suggests a mechanical problem and lower leg pain is a classic sciatica symptom. The fact that the clear mechanical linkage is no longer there does not take away from the fact that it was - maybe something shifted and the simple alignment is no longer there. There's also a good chance I am wrong and it's something else entirely. @Scott Adams's mention of shingles is interesting. It seems possible but unlikely to me, but who knows. However, I am writing here to reinforce the idea of getting the shingles vaccine. Ask anyone who has ever had shingles and they will bend your ear telling you how bad it is. I watched my wife go through it and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Even if you had the chicken pox vaccine, you really want to get the shingles vaccine.

      Oddly this effect has gone now, just happened yesterday evening, the nerve pain is now back to its usual "unpredictable" random self again - but that was the only time I ever had some mechanical trigger for it, don't know why! There's no (or wasn't) actual pain in my neck - it was inside the leg, but when I looked down, now though, the leg pain just comes and goes randomly as before again.
