Son being tested positive IgA EMA

My son is 8. He is very small for his age. His bone age is 6. We saw an endocrinologist last week and had bloodwork done. His EMA was positive and the titer was 1:40 normal is less than 1:5. We have an appointment with GI this week and I feel like he will recommend a scope. My question is if anyone had a child who was small for their age and had significant growth after being diagnosed and going gluten free. From what I am ready it seems the EMA is pretty specific and it is positive there is a good chance he has celiac.

Welcome to the forum, MamaC13. The damage to the small bowel villi creates inefficient absorption of nutrients and will cause stunted growth in children. Once your son gets on a gluten free regimen he should start to catch up. But I would recommend some good gluten-free vitamin and mineral supplements as well.

The good news about this disease is that if your son does have it, and goes 100% gluten-free (unfortunately this may mean excluding restaurant food due to the cross-contamination risk), he should be able to recover fairly quickly and in most cases his growth may catch up to the normal range again.

      Yes I have the fish symbol on my car and my ring 🙏 and yes I've been going for years to the docters but I got that feed up ov having to avoid eating out or even visiting people threw aniexty of needing the toilet or of gas or sickness I did some research of my own and I did the elimination diet and what a difference I've had my family think I'm nuts at ti...

      Thanks for the kind words.
