Becoming more sensitive

I was diagnosed with celiac about a year ago with bloating symptoms and loss of eyelashes. Bloodwork came back really elevated, >128. Noticeable improvement since going gluten free, eyelashes grew back, stomach bloat greatly reduced.

Lately I’ve been noticing I’m becoming highly sensitive to foods even marked gluten free. Brown rice from Trader Joe’s, ruffle potato chips, piece of orbit gum. My stomach blows up like a balloon within minutes of ingesting something. Just not sure what to do or if anyone else experiences these things.

Welcome to the forum, dwspaanem!

Does the bloating happen if you were to eat meat alone? And is it the stomach that bloats up or is it lower down?

I'm thinking you might have SIBO.

Regarding the Orbit gum, if it contains artificial sweeteners some people get IBS symptoms from them.

As Scott said, watch out for the class of alternative sweeteners know as "sugar alcohols". Sorbitol is one example and they are very common in processed foods these days. They are also known as "pre biotics". They give many of us digestive problems such as you describe. One sugar alcohol that does not give digestive problems is erythritol. I am currently using it on my hot cereal in the mornings in place of cane sugar or artificial sweeteners. All sugar alcohols are natural products as opposed to Splenda, Saccharin, etc. which are not found in nature.

Thanks for your insight. Oh gosh, feels like all over but I’d say maybe it is lower down. I look about 7 months pregnant when it happens. I messaged my dietitian from when I was diagnosed. Hopefully I’ll be back on track soon. Thanks for your help.

Had never heard of SIBO but it does sound like a likely scenario. Thanks again!

Yep, the gum had sorbitol. Adding it to my do not eat list. Thank you!

Watermelon is also high in sorbitol and probably the reason many people can't handle much watermelon.

Ichthus is the Greek word (using English letters) for fish. The letters in the actual Greek word form an acronym that come from the first letters in the Greek words for "Jesus", "God's Son," "Savior".   Now, back to your family's denial of your celiac disease, I think you can relate to this:

Thanks for the kind words. It's hard to convince my doctor to investigate further because of a negative blood test and he only tested me for one marker. 🙃 I've come to the point where I need to take this into my own hands because the doctors are infuriating and it's not going anywhere. I've been gluten free for a week and feeling better but I was still consuming dairy and I think that's what's backing me up. Next week no dairy introduced.

Hello mantooth nice to meet you it's so uncanny what you wrote you sound just like me even the back issues are exactly the same and I'm new here too trying to find out if I have the same had I too have been struggling to find answers with my docters I don't have a diagnosis but I've been struggling like forever and was told ibs and health aniexty was my problem but on researching I've come to the conclusion it's probably more because i cut gluten and lactose out for 6 months and  it was a incredible change for me so although I can't help with diagnosis I can say your not alone in trying  to find answers 😊
