Can a person with Celiac's be an organ donor do you think? No, I'm not planning on kicking the bucket.

Short answer is yes: Open Original Shared Link

(quite a URL that is). Now, whether we'll have any organs fit to donate when we're done with them is another question.

I actually wropte to the MN chapter of the organ donation people and asked about bone marrow. They never answered me back (outside of an auto-reply), which I took as a no.

I don't think very much study has been done on certain aspects of this (like the marrow question). I read on a post here some time ago that because the marrow makes certain kinds of cells, the disease might transfer. That's why I wrote to them.

The red cross will take our blood (if we are feeling well enough). Note, though, that they do not screen blood for gliadin (from an untreated celiac, say.)

I believe you can donate if you are in good health and do not show signs of any complications from Celiac Disease.

To make a long story short, I am an undiagnosed celiac, with positive results on the diet. Have been to a GI doctor who specializes in Celiac, said that I did not need testing because I would test negative anyway because I was already on the Gluten-Free diet for about 1 year.

I was just approved to donate a kidney to my mother who has poly-cystic kidney disease. She has been on Dialysis for 3 1/2 years now. The surgery was scheduled for September 8. Due to unforseen circumstances, we postponed the surgery for a few months....

SO, yes you can be an organ donor, even with Celiac Disease.....

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
