Gluten Free Food Source - Central Pa And Online!

I spent almost an hour and a half at a shop called the Gluten Free Food Source, LLC today. The shop is small, but has a great selection of gluten-free items - over 800 products. What's really awesome is the folks that run it. Bev, one of the owners (she and her husband own it), makes everything by hand, uses the products in her shop, and is very matter of fact about cooking and baking gluten free. She offers great tips on how to cook and bake, how to translate recipes into gluten free recipes, and has a passion for those with food sensitivity. She makes it very easy to purchase what you need. I felt so relieved having someone to ask the nitty gritty questions of food prep.

AND you can shop online! I highly recommend their store for locals to Dillsburg, PA (about forty minutes SW of Harrisburg, the capital city), and for those too far, order from them online! I love to support small businesses, and especially when it involves folks who have passion for what they do.

I visit Bev & Lauren about twice a year so not often. WHat are they making & selling that they do themselves? I know several local gluten-free bakers who take their goodies to the shop but didn't know Bev was now baking & selling herself/ please fill me in!!!!

I agree it is a very nice gluten-free shop & Bev is wonderful Lauren too!!!!!

Mamaw - I don't know that she is selling any of her own recipes - but she spent an hour coaching me on how to make my cookies tomorrow, which I SO appreciated. I am very nervous to make them. I appreciated the time she took and the incredible amount they know about the products they sell. I visit the local health store (Healthy Grocer) and Wegman's - and Giant, actually - to buy the bulk gluten free stuff, as the prices are better, but I will buy those hard to find or specialized items from Bev and Laurin - they are so kind.

okay, I may have misread your message--- I thought they were now baking! Don't worry about your baking if you don't get success the first time just try again. There is a slight learning curve but muffins, cookies are the easiest. Breads & rolls take a bit more time to learn .....If you research the recipe file on this site there are some great recipes on here.

It was kind of Bev to help you . That is what celiac people do help each other.

Your godd deed turn will come as well.

Good Luck & blessings for a healthy lifestyle.

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
