Well At Least He Tried To Help

This is sort of a funny story.

I went to a beauty supply yesterday to find a good quality shampoo and conditioner that's gluten free. The man at the counter saw me reading all the labels and asked me if he could help. I explained to him about not being able to have gluten, which is in wheat, barley and rye. I told him that most of the products have wheat and I had to read all the labels. He had broken English, but still he was proficient and seem to understand.

He was so sweet. He starts bringing me all these bottles to read. "Here try this one. It's organic. Try this one it's sulfite free. Try this one, it's all natural." I had this HUGE pile of bottles in front of me and he's getting excited and caling me over "Hey what about this!" Every single one of them had wheat so I kept saying "No not this one."

Finally after about 45 minutes he looks at me and says "By the way, what's wheat?":lol::lol:

Oh I have another one too. My neighbors are Italian and so am I, so we will have spaghetti nights together or share sauce. His father was over visiting and I was explaining to him about having celiac disease and having to eat different pasta, change my meatball recipe etc.

After we talk for about 15 minutes he says "Okay, so you can only eat gluten flour right? Where do you buy that gluten flour for you to eat? If I make you some meatballs with gluten flour will that be okay?"

I wanted to clap my hand to my forehead but I just patiently explained. Again. For the 3rd time.

Point him to a gluten free flour mix and some gluten free bread crumbs...

my mother in law is now making her meatballs with gluten free breadcrumbs so we all can eat them!

He was quite convinced that gluten was the ONLY flour I could have. I am scared to trust his meatballs now. I could just see him at Sprouts asking for gluten flour and putting wheat gluten in it. Yikes!
