Hasn't happened to me yet, sorry to say, and it's been over three years. <_<

I remember reading that I would be "singing on my way to work" and overall more lighthearted and joyous after going gluten free. But that has yet to happen!

I mean...more directly...of course my quality of life has improved because I'm not hopelessly/helplessly sick every 3-6 weeks, which would denigrate my mood by many degrees. So that's gone.

But as far as an overall improvement in mood etc...hasn't happened to me. I also have hashimoto's hypothyroidism for what it's worth.

A lot of the chronic fatigue went away within a month or two, but I had to get off my meds and go onto probiotics and a special vitamin supplement made for bipolars before I stopped having mood swings entirely. It took about three months for the supplement to really kick in, and it gave me candidiasis at first (not uncommon) so I felt worse before I felt better. I take EMPowerPlus available from http://www.truehope.com.

I found that I had a dramatic and sustained improvement in my depression 3 months after going gluten-free. It was a bonus as I thought the depression was more about life events and not coping with the illness, but almost exactly 3 months after giving up gluten I woke up one day and felt a lot better. Not perfect, but far more in control of my emotions and a lot more resiliant - I felt like myself again :)

Things haven't been totally perfect since, but a lot of that is that I am still quite unwell. Significantly, the only times that my mood has felt uncontrollably down for more than a short time was the couple of times earlier on when I was glutened. It took between 1-3 weeks afer that before I felt better.

I have to be 100% gluten-free in order to get all the mental health benefits of the diet. If I even let myself eat off of plates shared with someone who eats gluten I only get maybe at most 80% mental clarity.

Even then I still get hazy reality for at least 7 days after my latest gluten poisoning.
