And Yet Another Symptom

Before diagnosis gluten was causing me to have constant sinus infections, allergy symptosm even though I only had 2 mild allergies, and asthma troubles.

So I got glutened on Friday and have still been recovering. I just started going out salsa dancing on Tuesday nights recently and I still felt a little under the weather but decided to go.

Well as soon as I hit the dance floor with a guy, my asthma starts acting up. Salsa has lots of spinning and I've been doing it for 12 years so the guys like to go a little nuts spinning me around. I started getting so short of breath I got really dizzy and had to stop in the middle of the dance.

I had to tell him the truth because he's somebody I dance with regularly and I don't want to offend him. He's an amazing dancer. Of course he was so sweet, led me off the floor and made sure I was okay, but it was so embarrassing and frustrating.

I know it's from that awful glutening because my asthma has been directly related to gluten for years. The only time it flares up now is if I get glutened and this last one was very bad.

It was quite a shock to me that my asthma was part of the celiac picture but I guess it is not surprising since it seems to have something to do with inflammation. Sorry this happened to you. Salsa dancing is sooo much fun. I did it quite a bit prediagnosis but stopped when I kept falling over. LOL

After I had been gluten free for a while the asthma stopped showing up when I get glutened I hope that happens for you also.

I have had Asthma really bad all of my life. I couldn't run around as much as other kids, never ran the mile in gym class (I always had to walk it). Now at the age 30 I gave up gluten and dairy and it's gone. I realized it was gone when I found myself walking to the store one day in a hurry and I realized I usually would not be able to walk that fast without using my inhaler, but I was speed walking and I had no problems breathing at all! I try to may start running soon, I'm so happy to be able to to breath! Until your post I had attributed it to dairy, however. When I was a toddler I would cough and have trouble breathing when my mom gave me milk or cheese. The doctor told her to cut back on the dairy in my diet, She did limit it but she never completely cut it out for me. The doctor said I would "outgrow" the dairy intolerance, so my mom didn't see the need to be strict about it. And I didn't find out I had problems with dairy as a child until I asked my mom about it a few months ago. Now that I think about it though gluten may contribute to my asthma as well.

Ooh a fellow salsa lover! Cool!

I hope it stops being triggered when I get glutened. It is amazing how many symptoms are caused by celiac.

It is amazing how many systems are effected. Many more than I thought when first diagnosed. I was just happy to have tummy issues stop but was amazed when other stuff slowly resolved also. It felt like a rebirth in many ways.

@Aretaeus Cappadocia thank you for your reply and the link, that is very helpful to get a visual of just how small of an amount can cause a reaction. I know I am not consuming gluten or coming into contact with gluten from any other source. I will stop touching/tossing bread outside! My diet has not changed, and I do not have reactions to the things I am currently eating, which are few in number. My auto immune reaction just seems so severe. The abdominal pain is extreme. It takes a lot out of me. I guess I will be this way for the rest of my life if I ever happen to come into contact with gluten? I appreciate the help.

Thankyou I did find out the Infectious disease is the route to go rather than dermatologist. I did reach out to two major hospitals and currently waiting on approval for one of them in Infectious Diseases to call me. I also did have implants ( I didn't know and sense not properly in my medical. Neither did surgeon)in 2006 and there was a leak 2023 during the same time I was dealing with covid, digestive issues, eyes and skin.Considering I " should  be fine" not consuming gluten/wheat, taking vitamins for sibo and STILL feeling terrible. It has to be parasites. I also take individual eye drops prescribed, could there be an issue there? Anyways my pcp thinks I need therapy because again they don't acknowledge my digestive issues because in my records it shows im fine, hintz the reason I had to go back to bay area hospital:(  I thought skin issues maybe sibo related but I feel and have seen and seriously trying not to think about it because it's disgusting.

oops. I didn't see that before posting or I would have at least referenced it. The two recipes are pretty similar, but I think the newer one is a little simpler/faster. Next time though I will search more before posting.

I love Middle Eastern food and eggplant, and here is another version we shared some time back:

The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
