Do I Go To A Specialist

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I just had the blood test done and my antibodies were 25 and 100. My regular doctor said I have the Celiac disease but I have read alot about this on line and it says you should have the small intestine biospy too. Do I need to go to a specialist??? They told me no??

The biopsy is considered the "gold standard" and gives you and your physician an idea of just how much damage has been done. it also helps diagnose if the blood test results are not conclusive. There are a lot of diagnosed and self-diagnosed celiacs who have not had a biopsy, though, so it's really between you and your doctor. In my opinion, it's good to go to a knowledgeable GI specialist, but if you think your primary care doctor knows his/her stuff, then it may not be necessary. It's really up to you.
