Random Sliver Like Spot In Finger

So for maybe the past year (haven't been tracking as I never thought it was connected to gluten) I get these random sore spots on my fingers/palms. I wondered if any of you DH experts had anything similar. Some details:

1. Only get one at a time

2. Last a few days to a few weeks

3. A very small, pimple size bump

4. Flesh colored, so not red, or inflamed, or discolored. If you tried to find it w/out me pointing it out you wouldn't notice it.

5. No push or fluid. No blister or boil. Just a bump you can feel

6. Sometimes a barely visible red or dark dot at the center

7. Painful when you push or rub against it. That's the only indication it is there and how I will first notice it. It feels like a sliver or tiny paper cut but there's nothing there.

I mostly get them on my index finger, just below the meaty pad of my finger tip. I've had one on my middle finger (same approximate location) and one on the palm of my hand near the fleshy section between my thumb and index finger. I have had them on both hands so not related to callus or blister from holding a pen/pencil for example. I don't think it's a wart because it never develops into anything. It mysteriously appears, again I notice it like I'd notice a sliver, and a week or so later it's just gone. Then I forget about it until the next one randomly appears on some other hand, finger, palm. Repeat. A google search yields quite a few people asking similar questions but no good answers.

Any ideas?

I'm going to start tracking on my food log now. It never dawned on me to do so.

Hi Birdie,

My hunch is that I'd be suspicious of other things before DH. A few of the characteritics don't seem to be prominent features, but there's no such thing as normal DH so who knows! Probably the most contra-indicitive seems to me to be the 'only one at a time' thing. DH lesions can come in groups or individually, but usually you would see multiples all at various stages.

Best wishes!

When they go away does the skin around where the bump was peel? My palmoplantar pustular psoriasis started with just one or two bumps like that. At first they didn't look like the whithead pimples that they do now when I get a flare. They too were just bumps. Then they would go away and I would get a new one someplace else. Eventually I got more and more spots until my hands were covered, from wrist to fingertips.

Do you get them on your feet too?

Hi birdie, it doesn't sound much like dh. There's a chance it's pre-dh but really it sounds more like something else --- I don't know what but it isn't really ringing any bells for dh at this time.

I wonder if it could be herpes?

For years I had a few small blisters appear and disappear in the same spot on my index finger. Apparently it was a herpes virus in the skin. The bumps finally just went away and never came back.

Doesn't peel, not really a blister, just a bump, never in the same spot twice, none on feet or anywhere else just hand/finger. The one from last week is almost gone 5 days later.

Ah, not herpes then! It was always in the exact same spot. Hopefully your food log tells you something.

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
